First time posting here. I have a 2010 4runner sr5 (image below), and I'm looking to replace the chrome components (part of the grille, liftgate cover, roof rails, handles, and chrome strips on the sides). Seems like info about pre-facelift 4runners isn't all that common, so I'm wondering if there are any others out there who have successfully blacked-out their pre-facelift 4runner, and if so, what all they did. I know you can easily get plastic covers for all those pieces, but I've seen a lot of people mentioning that they don't hold up for very long. IMG_1089.jpg Thanks guys.

    Yes!

Though it is a very frustrating, time consuming and expensive exercise if you want to do it right. The only thing left chrome on mine are the roof rails. I will wrap them once the weather opens up.
I don't even know why I blacked it out. Herd mentality I guess.
    Nice color you have there.

Geez, This is tough as beaver teeth.

Both of these 4Runners are awesome in each pic. Would be hard to choose based on the time of the week.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I agree, but I think @DrBubbles has a cooler looking ride. It's the tires that make it look better. Personally, I think you shouldn't wrap them in black, wrap them in red. To match the body.

Thanks for the responses guys! I honestly don't hate the chrome, and it can look good from time-to-time. I honestly didn't consider doing red rather than black, but that sounds like it would look pretty rad. @Lc200 I think I'm in the same boat with you on the "herd mentality".

If you're considering color matching, consider doing it two ways:

    1) Plasti dip all the parts. Removing them first and then re-installing them.
    2) Use a rattle can to paint them, but use the rhino liner so it gives it some texture for durability and aesthetics. You can do this with the parts still on the truck, just make sure mask the area around the parts you plan on spray painting. This option is very cheap but if you want to do it right it can be kind of time consuming because of all the prep work to be done.

I have the exact same trim/color/year and want to do something about the chrome too. Let me know what you end up doing!
