Another victim of the FB groups/Reddit?

Seems the only board on the entire site that gets even a little traffic is this one. Has this become another victim of the FB groups/Reddit? Sad, and I know it isn't anyone's fault. I just hate FB groups and want my old style forums back.

 

It's not dead, we're just chatting in a private area...about you, behind your back.

It's pretty dead. Most forums are. The other 4runner forum was much more active but they recently destroyed the layout with ads

 

All sites go through ebbs and flows. Ups and downs. Some days this site is really hopping. Others...not so much.

 

Yeah they used to a great resource. I don't get how anyone can glean useful info off Reddit or those damned groups.

 

Myself and @Yotaholic both got rid of 4Runners so the shit starters are gone.

 

FB is the place to be now. People can cry about laugh reacts and create their own page when something doesn’t meet their “standards.”

Also people trading in for the 6th gen are busy trying to find if HKS makes a bov for it.

 

Well we could get a discussion going on oil or what tires everyone likes.....

 

Posting lots of pics of gas prices should do it.

 

I don’t feel like this forum is dead. Look around. Any topic with a clearly asked question gets answered, and relatively quickly. If particular areas seem less travelled, I think that’s because there’s some redundancy among the forums. Wheels and tires, builds, and trip reports often end up here rather than in their eponymous forums.

 

This forum is far more active than any of the other forums that I’m on. I get that people are moving to FB and Reddit, but the world has to realize that not everyone will be on board with the change.

 

Everyone sold their 5th gen before values plummet with 6th gen debut

 

I think this site is fully saturated with super useful information. The only new information to be gleamed is on the 6th gen platform. Once that model gets into enough owner's hands, I think this site will see an influx of activity

 

I don't see how anyone could like a Fakebook group more than a forum like this. They're fine for socializing, and planning events, but useless for actually finding information.

 

Plenty of things went to FB/Reddit but this place doesn’t seem particularly dead, there’s only so many things pertaining to a single car model to discuss.

Both Facebook and reddit 4runner sections are absolutely trash.

Yeh this place is dead compared to the Tacoma forums.

Where’s the 4runner fb group?

 

15 years of Gen5, and arguably the biggest changes have been LED’s & CarPlay, so I’m actually impressed there’s as much chatter as there is.

The Tacoma forums right now are lightning rods for Toyota traditionalist Gen4 haters and early-adopter Gen4 kool-aid drinkers to face off. I suspect once the Gen6 arrives, we’ll see plenty of lively conversations. That’s at least entertaining.

And in the meantime, the worthy 1GR will finally be drinking it up with its legendary brother 22R, in valhalla.

I remember when facebook became a thing. I have somehow managed to avoid ever making a facebook account. I still maintain that it’s all a fad

I don’t think that people in general value forums as much anymore. Maybe it’s a generational thing? But I’ve always viewed them as a perfect source of knowledge for vehicles like motorcycles or old cars. The 4runner is a perfect subject for a forum given how long its been around

 

Yeah, I don't have a FB or Reddit account, or Instagram for that matter. I prefer the forums.

Even though I’m not on facebook, I admit I check out the links you post on the regional thread in TW. That usually ends up going down a rabbit hole where I’m wondering why I shouldn’t buy some huge Bridgeport milling machine because it’s so “cheap” and nearby. Or other things that will get me in a heap of trouble.

 

Do the 7 posts in this thread count? All 7 are wondering when there'll actually be a 6th gen to do something to...

I've tried to use FB, but the lack of any technical expertise or followup is annoying.

One of the motorcycle groups I'm on, a guy did a pretty indepth modification to a wiring harness. I asked how he did it and he told me to look it up
These kind of interactions seem to be pretty common.

FB and Instagram seem to be about chasing clout more than improving the community.
