Yeah, I'm sure that the least fuel efficient engine that couldn't even meet emissions regulations 10 years ago will be a contender in the future.

When I read the Safety Act I realized that there is no provision that mandates a manufacturer to provide replacement parts for any particular duration of time. There are provisions in case a defect is detected but that's different.
I believe , the Industry standard is to provide parts for at least 10 years after production has ended. But it's not in any code or any statute.

I had a Mazda with wankel's engine. 1995 rx 7. Drank gasoline like crazy. They finished making them in 1996 in Europe. That was in Poland, where I am from. That was my second vehicle. I bought it in 2003. Call me a Pollack and I will kill u.

Failures and “issues” aren’t the only things that drive the need for replacement parts. Collisions do too. I’ve been around long enough to see the pattern. Some body parts will become scarce. For a vehicle with as many units sold as the 4Runner, probably an aftermarket company will come in and start offering re-pops, sometimes of lesser quality than the originals — body panels that are thinner or of poorer fit and finish etc. and folks will scramble for the dwindling originals. The prices for the original parts will skyrocket. Some folks might even start hoarding them. For most people this won’t be an issue, but for those among us who have boldly declared “this is the last vehicle I’ll ever own” they might find themselves involved in a game of musical chairs that they didn’t anticipate.

(@Thatbassguy: well, that will teach me not to reply to a post without quoting it…)

Usually spare parts start to become an issue after 20 years from what I understand. In 20 years I'll be most likely shitting myself and won't care! My favorite saying now is, "Don't know, Don't care!"

my first car was a ‘79 rx7 with well over 100k miles and the original clutch. Nothing could kill that car.

I miss mine, too. It was a 95' Montego Blue with tan leather. It was rare, it had the R1 & R2 package. Sure, the mpg's sucked ass, but I didn't care. It looked sooooooooooooooo cool and cornered like it was on rails.

I think that generation of RX7 is one of the best looking vehicles to ever come out of Japan. I am not a Mazda guy, but I would love to own one of those things!

If you ever buy one, make sure you find a mechanic that specializes in rotary engines.......then become his best friend. The engines are a nitemare.

My 4th Gen will stay forever unless I find the perfect 1st Gen or FJZ80 and I have to sell to make it work

my DD is a Tundra and I wouldn’t replace that either

Id get rid of my wife’s car for either a LC250 or 6th Gen, but even then I’d lean towards the Land Cruiser

I can't to speak to what society cares about but I'm pretty sure the nice folks at Hot Wheels care about saving $.0002 per Hot Wheel by leaving the bottom flat.

The $.0002 went to making the rear tires larger, a feature missing in previous gen Hot Wheels  Previous gen also lacked the rear diffuser.
