Going to drive one today... 52,000 miles, Gold Certified Warranty. $42,900
    -
The owner apparently traveled for work so drove 30k in the first 10 months (was told highway but of course you never know...) ... then looks like he drove more normal at 1.2-1.5k per month after that (he had it for a total of 27 months). The truck is clean as a whistle. It's got a lot of the TRD bells and whistles and saw it was sold originally a bit over $51k.
    -
Anything I should look for besides metal shavings in oil, brakes, tires and rust on undercarriage ? Live in WI BTW
    -
If I do pull the trigger, it'll be bitter sweet. I have a 2007 4R Limited 4x4 w/285,000. It's been around the block a few times, but still runs like a dream.

    Thank you

In 23 a lot of places were still selling for 5k OVER sticker, the rest were selling at sticker (at least in the northeast). You absolutely were not getting a 4runner for under MSRP...

Ok so splitting the difference, maybe a $1-2k or so, high?

ill see if they will move at all and throw in $60k maintenance since that’s pricey.

I hope and pray there will not be any metal shavings in the oil.

I think its a fair price personally, especially if you're dead set on LR color. I took a quick look at prices online and I'm seeing 2021's listed at similar mileage for about the same price (non LR). Maybe try to get them down to 40 or 41k, but again I think 43k isn't terrible if there's no rust. Just get some fluid film on her frame if you do end up buying

In your shoes I’d wait. You have a serviceable vehicle now. Let this one go by and wait until the 6th Gen is released. My thought is that there will be a glut of used 4Runners to choose from.

And just as a matter of course, I hate the idea of buying any used car that comes with a Story™ to explain some aberrant characteristic of the car.

One of our 23s was 3k under off the bat. I was a little mad because we paid sticker for the other one. :/

Of cause do a pre-purchase inspection. Before paying for it you can do initial checks including leaks. If equipped with KDSS check for KDSS leaks also. Here's a pic as example.

In Raleigh, NC I purchased my 23 ORP in Lunar Rock new last November, sticker was just over $57k ($55,639 from toyota, dealer added $1599 in window tint) and I purchased it for $51,600 before taxes, etc. I was pleased overall with the deal as I was dead set on Lunar Rock, but realize that was probably an outlier overall. Funny thing was they also had a used 23 ORP in Lunar Rock with 14k miles on it for the same price and weren't willing to budge on the used one. Made the choice extremely easy for me.

did yours come with MTS and such? 55k before dealer options sounds like a fully optioned out ORP for 23.

regardless seems like a good deal for what one could get the last few years especially in the Southeast.

Yep, has MTS, crawl control and all of the other ORP options including heated steering wheel, seats, etc. While I knew it was a good deal in today's day and age, it still pained me as I only paid $31k for my 2013 SR5 4x4 new, they sure have gone up over the years. That being said, I still got almost 21k in trade for the 13 with 128k miles, so they definitely hold their value which is another reason I continue to brag on them. To the op, I'm personally of the opinion to buy what you want as long as you can swing it and the records check out on the truck. Good luck.

Just a thought, I love my 2019 and previous 4Runners over my 2021. I'm not a fan of new tech like Toyota Safety Sense.

2023 isn't going to rust regardless of mileage.

Check the steering rack boots for leakage.

Make sure the rear locker still works as the previous owner likely never touched it.

Check for wiring butchery from previously installed trackers and aftermarket alarms like Karr Security. One telltale sign is 2-3 screw holes in the knee panel from mounting the dongle:

Most 5th gen owners don’t want a 6th gen in fact there was a huge rush last minute to buy 5th gen’s

historically the price of used 3rd gen Tacomas shot up because what a piece of shit the 4th gen Tacoma turned out to be (basically the exact same car is the 6th gen 4Runner)

2nd gen tundra prices shot up because what a piece of shit the new 3rd gen tundra is

and fj cruiser prices have shot up and are still up because they stopped making them

yeah a 2wd sr5 4Runner 5th gen won’t be worth much but a low mileage trd off road/premium and pro will fetch top dollar for years to come

    Thanks everyone...

Reporting back... going to pull the trigger today. We settled on a fair price and though I may swap out the TRD exhaust, I am not too worried about a newer 4runner. I'll get an independent inspection as well.

That said, I'd love to wait until they perfect the 6th generation, but honestly Toyota is going to price me out. At least this way, I will have a fairly valuable 2023 if I decide to trade up in 5-6 years. There's a huge value in that to me... plus I can still get a good amount for my 2007.

Love this forum and glad it exists!

If it has the TRD exhaust then typically it’s a Pro and not an ORP which makes the deal slightly better. Either way, glad you’re happy with the purchase.

He added it with his build… so besides the dual climate control, it is a pro. Time will tell if it’s a good buy!

It doesn't look like a lot of people have confidence in the 4th gen Taco yet judging by how many 24 MY units are still on dealer lots.

The cheapest fleet spec ones around my area are about 36k MSRP, 4k higher than Toyota's official 31.5k starting price. If that's any indication of how they are producing units. it will be hard to find 6th gen 4wd 4Rs under 50k at least the first year or so. The Tacos are still sitting with 3-4k on the hood too.

Bruh.. I bought a new ‘23 51k sticker ORP for 46k, in the 4Runner capitol of Colorado. Dealers wanted to move them so bad.. several area dealers offered that discount.. all over email

Must have been a reason to move them like they did... too many on the lot, not enough demand, or the dealers screwed up. They didn't sell that inexpensively here and they still sold out quickly. Sounds like you got a great deal!

In the last week of posting about this used ORP here, prices have continued to climb with fewer options and model years earlier. Might be short term pump, or might last if the new engine still has problems in 2026 and 2027. No ones knows... what we do know is that the 5th gen is a great engine and truck and will last owners for as long as they want to drive it... and that is in part, why we love them

The hybrid engine will eventually be great, but it's an area that is so rapidly developing, I would hate to spend $60k or more (if I had it) and get left behind in a few years because something better has come along!

there was a brief period after the inflated chip shortage around late 2022 thru 2023 where you could get money off msrp once it was confirmed 2024 was the actual final year and there was a true shortage then of course prices sky rocketed proving the laws of supply and demand are alive and well and Americans embrace fomo more than god or family

Whelp, went for it! Upgrade complete. No buyers remorse yet. Happy to have one that will last as long as I need or want it to (paid 42k, 45 OTD)… ORP but basically a pro minus the connection features and dual climate.

Congrats! That's a beautiful 4R. I think Lunar Rock is the best color, and I wish mine was LR.

The price sounds like a fair deal to me. People want to talk about what the prices were in 2023, but that's irrelevant. The important thing is what prices are today.
