Didn’t watch, but I know the 3PMSF rating is hardly comprehensive. Misconception about it denoting a superior winter tire is probably a misconception but of course, “lie” gets the clicks.

Their offroad tires were good in the 80s/90s. Now Toyota owners just fap to them because of Ivan Stewart. I had them on my Ranger and they sucked on road and were mediocre offroad.

    Not sure about that statement, but I'm not sure. I didn't have much complain about them but sure they were not good as Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. By looking at some reviews;

On another test the KO3 seems to be improved version of KO2

I had issue with Duratracs. Somehow less traction than the BFGs on the street. Offroad they worked better for me but they got noisy with age.

In a world of varying tire weight loading (unsprung/sprung), contact patch size (wheel size), tread design, siping...I only go with a 3PMS rated tire just to appease chain control during winter months. Experience has taught me several things, drive smart and practice in an empty lot to see what your tire/rig is capable of regardless of which tire brand.

Does a tire with a 3PMS symbol perform better in ice/snow condirions? Just watch the seasonal reports from the Truckee CHP! Especially keep an eye out for videos coming from Kingsbury Grade :D

I'm sure there will be plenty of people saying that the 3PMS isn't needed. These people will also live where there's no snow.

Where I live, winter is a combination of freezing rain and lots of wet snow. I pay careful attention to snow tire reviews and buy the best or second best reviewed dedicated snow tire. I would have went with a studded tires, but they are banned here.

10% or 12% better depending on test tire size. Bulletin straight from the tire manufacturer's association: https://www.ustires.org/system/files/files/2024-09/TISB 37 No 6.pdf

Since it's a trade association of tire manufacturers coming up with their own standard, the bar is set very low so everybody is a winner.

I have well over a decade of experience in severe snow and ice with both BFG AT KOs and Duratracs across 1/2 dozen vehicles. Both are excellent in my opinion. The two comments that I'll make are 1) Duractracs are the longest lasting AT tire I have ever encountered (75k+ miles on my wife's last Silverado), and 2) The BFGs hold and throw gravel like no one's business.

I just put Toyo OC AT3's on my new 4R (because they were on sale and had a rebate) and have had it in two heavy snow events so far.... very good initial impressions. My one comment on the Toyos..... they are loud as shit. Noticeably loud as shit.

I m going to need new tires some time next year and I’ve been doing A LOT of research on what would suit me best.
It’s nearly impossible to make a decision based on people reviews because some swear by tire X over Y, while others say the complete opposite. So it’s hard to make myself an opinion.
I wish I could put each brand on my truck for a week before making a decision.

It's weird how I had a set of ko2s that had excellent tread wear and were pretty good in most conditions. And, I also know several people still using them and satisfied. But, there's always a handful of internet people calling them garbage.

Without watching the video or reading every comment, I'll add my $0.02...

I've had good luck with 3PMSF tires, but I assume it’s partially because I read reviews and choose tires based on actual user ratings.

A 3PMSF symbol doesn't automatically make a tire great for winter. And, a 3PMSF all terrain is not going to perform like a true winter tire.

Simply put: don't just assume that a 3 peak tire is going to perform well in winter. Look at reviews and adjust your expectations accordingly.

It calls the peak rating a sham since it has to beat some old tire by 10% to qualify.

    Thanks!

Seems like any half decent Tire these days would beat most older designs in snow performance.

Interesting video but overly redundant. I learned winter driving during brutal midwestern snow storms back in the 70’s when all we had was rear wheel drive and mediocre tires. Yet we managed to get from point A to point B without ending up in a ditch. If you can’t get around with 4wd and decent tires then maybe it’s time to get a Uber.
