We are thinking of buying the ‘02 LS430 so Amanda has something to drive. Unfortunately, it has more rust problems than previously thought, but Amanda loves the damn thing after driving it yesterday!

1979 Tercel SR5; I find it rather odd seeing the SR5 nameplate on something that isn’t a pickup truck or a T4R! I spotted this car while out delivering UPS packages, saved the nearest address, and went back after my shift to get a closer look! Considering that some lower-end vehicles had 4-speed transmissions standard well into the 1990s, a 5-speed in 1979 is quite impressive. However, this is one of the most no-frills Toyotas that I’ve seen, even by 1970s standards. It has an AM radio and no A/C, plus it’s black. I understand that not everybody could afford A/C, but why would paint a car without A/C the color that attracts the most heat?!?! Regardless of the lack of creature comforts, this is still one sweet ride! It is immaculate considering that it’s PA (possible it’s from California or something), and it supposedly has less than 60K original miles!

Brings back memories of my first Toyota - a 1979 Corolla - I saw this Corolla stall out in front of my house - it was apparently being "test driven" because it had a for sale sign in the window. I followed the car down the street to where the seller lived and discovered that the young lady test driving the vehicle decided not to purchase it - she wanted an automatic. I purchased the vehicle for $900 and drove it for several years back and fourth to college. The car was very dependable and only required general maintenance while I owned it. It was a great little car. I sold it for $1300 a year or so after graduation and bought my wife's engagement ring with the money - That was the best investment I ever made. (I am talking about my wife - 35 years married and she let me buy my new 4Runner) I have much to be thankful for!

 

I saw this shockingly rust-free gem today; 1985 Corolla! Unfortunately, it is an automatic, but these are virtually extinct in the Northeast!

I think there more newer (2007-present) LS460s around than I notice, but the styling is just so blah that they are not easy to spot like the 1990-2006 models; I still think they are excellent vehicles, but the newer ones are just boring! This is a 2008 Lexus LS460, meaning it is the second year of this generation…

...^^^... IIRC, I had an 1988 or 1989 that had AWD. SET was offering an addition $3,000.00 Rebate directly from Jim Moran ... really weird deal.

He wanted to get rid of them for some reason. I tried to buy several because they were super hot sellers up in VT & NH.

I got another one which made 2 total, but the word got out and they went fast. I had no idea how many SET had. They were really cool. IIRC, just a push button on the dash to engage the AWD. I was in the Atlanta area and trucked them up to Nashua, NH.

This was about the same time that Toyota was making a special Camry a little bit fancy and calling it a Lexus.

This 2023 GR Supra is only the third confirmed 2.0 model that I’ve ever seen in the wild. On another note, this dealership is charging almost two grand more than the new MSRP, even though it’s a 4-cylinder with 6,300 miles…
