I can definitely agree with you. Maybe the 6th gen just takes getting used to and grows on you. Cuz the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Gen were beauties, then 4th and 5th took on quite different looks I would say. Now the 4th Gen finally grew on me a lot ever since this awkward 6th gen came out. Thanks goodness the 6th gen doesn’t share the taco/tundra dreadful, boring taillights :p

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
I would be 94 yrs old then, 4wheeling with my walker, but Goldie will still be running after I’m gone.
Edit….I must be senile…at one time I was good at math…..I would be 104, not 94.

I built a 25’ TRD PRO the other night and it came to over 70 thousand, I’ll go to the GX550 way before the 4Runner. It’s amazing that they are charging 50% more than what I paid for my 19 TRD PRO new.

This is for sure not inflation.
I think Toyota is trying to cash in on the good name. Do they actually have the product that demands that much premium over say Jeep, or GMC or Kia, with warranty? No one knows, and no one will for another 5 years.
It would be inflation if other OEMs had raised their prices similarly. It seems to me one can buy non-toyota vehicles at a steep discount now than a few years ago. And in my mind the TNGA does not do anything to improve the reliability from earlier generations. So what is a consumer really paying for, if not the name?

I am a big Toyota fan boy, but this is not inflation. This is either corporate greed or they think their product is far superior than yesteryears. My money is on the first one being the cause.

...^^^... We recently had 4 RAV4's, 2019 to 2023 IIRC, and I really enjoyed that 8 speed. I have no idea how reliable that transmission is in the long run or the transmission in the T4R Gen 5 .... I was speaking how efficiently that 8 speed shifted. Happy to know how "rock solid" the A750 is in the 2024 T4R.

It’s not just inflation. Toyota is jacking up the prices because they know a lot of people are dumb enough to pay them.

The irony is every year hundreds of thousands of buyers pay through the nose for the Toyota Tax being assured by sales people that "Toyotas are sooooo reliable" but then they trade theirs in after a few years for something shinier

Why even buy Toyotas if one doesn't hold on to them long enough for the Toyota Tax to pay its dividend? Is it just to look like smart people to their neighbors and wo-workers as that "Toyota Guy/Gal"?

Corporate price gouging is not inflation and its annoying that consumers keep falsely “blaming” inflation then paying the prices which keeps the racket going. Most of the price the increases are price gouging and bs preservation of covid hikes.

Is it gouging if customers keep paying especially since vehicles that are rapidly increasing in prices are by and large "wants" and not "needs".

Adjusted for inflation Camry's, Corollas are cheaper than ever as well as crossovers like Corolla Cross, but everyone wants a 3 row crossover or a 4Runner to transport themselves to work and maybe ferry their 1.9 kids or dogs.

I’ll trade my 4th gen in 2030 for after midsycle refreshed 6th gen. Do you think I’ll get good value for 31 year old projected 150k miles 4 Runner?

If a was in the aftermarket business I would come up with a front bumper that would clean up the front look asap. First one to come with a decent one probably will make a good amount of money

I'd love to see AEV come out with a bumper for these, their bumpers are just so clean looking.

Honestly, I think the 5th gen front end is awkward looking too, an aftermarket bumper. Definitely cleans them up.

yeah the 5th gen face lifted front has always been a "meh" from me. It's leagues ahead of the post-face-list GX460 but that's like saying it looks better than a Gargoyle.

I am on the other side and love the black headliner. One of the interior feature that I miss from my Acura TL Type S.

Yeah, I would much rather have a black headliner in my 4R. The light gray is looking pretty dingy,. I really have to get to cleaning that.

I slept in it 2 months ago on a trip, and when I was looking up I realized just how filthy it is.

I’m in the no camp. I’ve only had my 24 for a couple months, and I bought it knowing i would keep it till it dies. I won’t comment on the 6th gen; haven’t seen one and I haven’t spent time looking into it, so that’s that.

I don’t understand it. The reason we bought two Toyotas was to keep them long term. If we wanted new vehicles every few years we would get something nicer/more comfortable but less reliable such as a grand Cherokee.

I know you weren't addressing me but FWIW, I rented one last year on business and put about 500 miles on it through the mountains of Oregon. It's nothing like what they used to be now that it's a unibody grocery getter but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a nice travel tool. The 3.6 pulled really well, it handled great and it was comfortable. Would I buy one? No...

The Hemi equipped trim had to be a blast.

Have you driven one? They have a hell of a lot nicer interiors than a 4Runner. Drive nicer too.

    It's all in the perception.
With softer, I meant more up market looking, newer looking. Not that utilitarian.
The females love the 4runner. And I can bet, they will love the newer one even more than the current one. The 4runner name is a powerful attractant. There is decades of legacy attached to it. And some cars are just cool and people like being seen in one no matter how bad they are to drive. G wagon, Defender and the 4runner to name a few.

I have no aversion to the new 4runner. I feel there is enough market for the new 4Runner to sell well. It will take time though for the new model to iron out the initial chinks and develop a following. However, I am a strong proponent of buying used.
What I am interested in is the new 2026 Honda Passport. Same Japanese reliability but with a V6. And it looks like the older 5th Gen. Competition is always good.

The 4Runner has a legacy name and reputation. The corporation will capitalize on it as long as it can.

Although reputations of the Tundra recalls and tacoma issues are not helpful. You know it’s a bad day when a Toyota dealer won’t take a two year old Tundra on a trade in with these engine recalls.

Too much change too fast if you ask me

This one. Decent enough motor, great ZF 8 speed gearbox, great ride.

Versus this one where the interior looks like 5 teams worked separately and only syndergized at the Assembly Plant.

The Jeep is no 4Runner being a unibody product with questionable long term reliability especially electronics, but for the average buyer who use it like most people and changes vehicles every 3-5 years there are certainly much worse places to be.

You consider 12k miles a year "getting out there"?:rofl: Sorry, I'll turn "jerk mode" off. That just seems like a crazy low number of miles to average per year.

    12k a year is 1000 miles a month, or about 33 miles a day.

Not everyone buys a 4Runner to do a 100 mile a day commute.

I understand everyone has different driving habits, but I've even heard insurance reps chuckle when someone tells them their average mileage will be under 15k per year. I've had vehicles I put 11k on in 3 months, while driving work vehicles for my commute, no less. I bought my current 4Runner 2 years ago, new, and I just hit 50k miles, and I have no commute, and I walk to the grocery store. Even still, that 25k mile per year average is likely by far the lowest I've put on a vehicle.
