I don't know how to read that but I'm assuming machine age is the car mileage and the oil and filter kind of self explanatory.

    So its closer to 17k?

A little under 20,000. Look at the iron, 17 after 20,000 miles, mind-blowing!

Oh you're right, I missed that, so it is a little over 16,000 miles, still very very impressive

Exactly. And a quality well designed motor helps too. Oil can't fix a bad design.

You know looking at things like this I get the hope that we will be fine with the Toyota turbos. If anybody can pull it off it is Toyota. Just don't let fuel sit in your oil and I think you will be fine

I drain my oil into the road as I drive and I continually top it up using a large tank mounted on my roof.

I may have commented this to you before, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself. I'm really not worried about turbos. I have a 18 y/o Volvo with a 2.5 L turbo, it has 233k miles and counting, with zero turbo related issues. With these cars, it's extremely common that they go 300K plus on the original turbos.

I know Volvo is not Toyota, however this gives me faith in turbos.

    Turbo design is everything.
My sisters1990 Volvo had clogged coolant line at restriction to turbo-it overheated. Replacement had issues with clogged oil line. Currently on 3rd turbo.
I hope there are top quality technicians trained at Toyota that can assist the dealer "techs" who replace parts based on readout of shop computer plugged into your truck.

Well that Corolla was not towing another Corolla. My GX will be towing another vehicle, so the HPL gods recommended this to me. No need to run a VOA because I got one from Bob is the oil guy

Look at all that zink, Holy Cannoli

I have an old Trailblazer that pretty much does just that.
On another note, the obsession with every little molecule of oil here is insane :duel:. We have two petroleum engineers in the family who don't nitpick the subject this much.

What’s the point of using an expensive oil and running it a lot of miles versus a standard oil that costs half as much and changing it twice as often?

Good question. Boutique oils like HPL, Amsoil and Redline give you long grain intervals. Longer OCI's are very convenient to some, that Corolla is an example. After 17,000 miles HPL's starting TBN of 17 dropped to 9.3. It could have gone to another 10,000 easy. I will run HPL for 10,000 miles or more with absolute confidence
