Hey folks, not looking for info or questions about any other tires or brands here. Just looking for reviews and photos of Cooper Road & Trail AT tires.

If you're currently running these tires share your overall experience, how many miles you've done, weather conditions, size you chose, on-road vs off-road, road noise, price you paid, all of it! And give us plenty of pictures!

Please only share if you have this tire currently mounted on your truck, not looking for speculative thoughts.

Summoning: @Maximumdarkside @ipnpulz @LastRide @Klinsman55 as just a few folks I think might be running these tires based on my quick forum search.

IMG_8178.jpg I’ll give what I can of the requested.

Overall experience has been excellent so far, but I’m fresh into them, maybe 500 miles so far?

I’ve done 70s down to single digits, drizzle to moderate rain, and wintry mix, no actual snow yet or ice. Wet grass and gravel no problems, no mud yet. All without a hiccup nor feeling like it would leave me in a bind.

From stock limited 20s to stock orp 17s.
    20s - 245-60-20
    17s - 265-70-17

20 in Firestone destination le3 are 36lbs each, 17 in cooper road and trail a/t are 41 lbs each, limited 20 inch rims are 40lbs each, orp 17 inch rims are 25lbs each, so provided I didn’t fat finger the math the differences come down to 304lbs for 4 20s and 264 for 4 17s, using discount tire for the tire weight and trail4runnerdotcom for the rim weights. Give or take a few ounces for tpms and tread wear.

Road noise to me is less than my 20s were and the road manners improved drastically, my whole quality/ride of life so to speak improved with the rim/tire swap.

All through discount tire with the certificates, price match, military discount, and cooper rebate, I was under about $900 out the door.

This is super helpful info. I'll admit I want A/Ts for the aesthetic.

I'm curious what points made you chose the Coopers over other ATs? I'm close to buying because they seem to check every box I want: lightweight, AT 'look', decent AT performance, great road manners, quiet like highway tires, reasonable price, great 65k warranty, 3PMSF rated, plus they have both 265/70 and 255/75.

Honestly, because of previous good experiences with Coopers and the fact that others were having good, although limited, experiences. Plus the fact that discount tire was able to price match, the military discount, the cooper rebate, and the certificates through discount tire. Pretty much pushed it above all the other brands in warranty at that time it would come with for the price and availability. It ticked all the boxes of what I was looking for at the time with no compromises. @vthoky was who I got my rims from and he was sporting a set of these Coopers on his so I got to see them in person on his 4Runner when we met and get real world feedback from him before I bit the bullet on my side. So that definitely helped inform my decision as well.

I was waiting until I had more miles/driving conditions on them :D so far they seem decent but I haven't driven all that much with them on snow or ice and not at all on gravel/mud nor have I driven in pouring rain. They seem quiet and ride decent. As winter goes on I know I will be able to put them to the test and have more to say about them. Below are some pics.

LarryDangerfield, that haul-the-old-ones-home method looks very familiar. :^)

    ----------------

I've got about 3200 miles on mine so far. We haven't had any crappy weather (snow) yet, so I can't really address that. We did get some heavy rain last week, and I didn't have any problems I wouldn't have had (hydroplaning) with any other tire.

I did run about 6 miles of unpaved road today. These tires will pick up and throw a rock once in a while, but that's to be expected with such a tread.

After that run, I slogged through a mile or so of mud and unmaintained (rutted and washed out) road to get to a friend's house. Didn't slip a bit on that trip... "Confidence has been inspired." ;^)

I haven't noticed any noise or fuel economy difference.
These tires, truly, are fairly quiet.

I can't speak to the gas mileage because I haven't owned my 4Runner long enough to even know what it typically gets but I can say that they are extremely similar in road noise to the highway tires that were on it. They are perhaps the tiniest bit louder but so much better than a lot of tires I have ran on my previous vehicles. Most recently was the Kenda Klever RT on my Tacoma, and they were great looking tires that performed very well and wore very well but I definitely found myself getting irritated by how loud they were so these tires are a breath of fresh air compared to them.

Time will tell I suppose but I seriously feel like Cooper knocked it out of the park with the Road & Trails. I’m finally excited to get new tires. Thank you both for sharing reviews and pics!

    Glad to help.

For about 4 years in the early 90s I worked for a Cooper dealer. I ran Cooper tires on everything in the garage after that, up until just a few years ago when the shop stopped carrying Cooper. Though the Michelins I had to put on the old Nissan SUV most recently have been the bee's knees (and have seen very little non-pavement use), I've got only good things to say about Cooper tires.

@jeepster09 appreciate you trying to help, but as the original post says: this thread is just for first-hand reviews and pics of Cooper Road & Trail AT tires, no other tires (from Cooper or any other brand). Thanks!

Just an FYI....the Road and Trails only have a 2 ply sidewall. Not a good choice if going off road at all. Looks like a good ROAD tire though.

How many ply is Cooper Discoverer Road Trail at?
    images_9dbacc047c8a1a7c83dfa0a8502e87111c29a6ff.jpg

The internal construction of the Discoverer Road+Trail AT consists of a robust, two-ply polyester casing.

So you don't want REAL FACTS posted....about thin sidewalls. Okay maybe you can start an oil thread next. :crapstorm: I think most would like the whole story about your WONDER tires. A lot of people that own 4Runners are very likely to go off the beaten path and knowing about these tires have only 2 ply sidewalls is important. If road use only is the goal they may be great. I worked at a shop that sold Coopers and we got lots back on Jeeps that cut a sidewall.

I’m just trying to keep a thread about the thing it’s intended for is all. Too many threads on this site (& others) get derailed. This thread is intended to help people looking for first-hand reviews and pics of Cooper Road & Trails. However, I did thank you for your contribution, I’m just hoping to keep this thread on track, but again, thanks for your contribution!

I went with 255/75r17, 3k miles on them.

Compared to the Limited wheels and tires, i swapped to the 17” trd pro wheels and these cooper tires and ride was slightly softer yet still light, responsive and sporty feeling on-road.

Road noise is same or less, no big difference i can tell

off road was bumpy bouncy at 38psi, aired down to 24 psi and felt better. Picture attached of the offroad trail condition i went on with the coopers. I generally go on trails a Subaru could handle

about 2 hours of driving around town and highway like a normal responsible human being in rain and wet roads I had no issues, no slip at all (but I have the limited edition so its full time 4wd). I feel I could have driven more aggressive and wanted to take her into a tight turn at more speed while accelerating hard to see what the tires could do but too many other cars were around (stay tuned though)

No snow or ice yet to drive on

getting around 19.2 mpg with them in combined driving, I drive gently and usually 65mph or less.

Alright, since you went with the 255/75/17 pizza cutter size, you gotta share a lot more pics than everyone else! Give us some pics of the stance and closer shots! I feel like 4Runners with 255/75 is under-discussed but also severely under-photographed. Even sitting in the drive give us some pics!

Lol I'll copy in over here

So, the tires that came with my 4Runner were some Uniroyal HTs and the full time four-wheel drive must be fairly decent because they didn't feel horrible. That being said, the Coopers definitely are better. The braking and acceleration on slippery surfaces is pretty damn good for an all terrain. The lateral grip is sufficient but not outstanding. They also seem to ride decent and are fairly quiet.

Update time, we finally got our low temps and snow here in TN.

We have hit the teens and have gotten 6+ inches so far with some mixed slush from them putting brine on the road and ice patches.

And other than the increased noise from the tires on the snow, they continue to impress, no slippage even when I tried to make them break traction, that may be the limiteds awd system at its best fighting my attempts, but climbing a hill that had 6 full size 4x4 off in the ditch last year in this same weather I never even broke stride.

At this time this may be my new favorite tire for an all around do it all. Time will tell on longevity since they are still so new, and since I do not off-road other than light yard and gravel roads/dirt roads I am not concerned with damaged sidewalls as another member was noting from off road rock punctures. YMMV.

Everyone stay safe and warm unless you are in CA, in that case stay safe and away from the fires, seek shelter and sound off to let someone know you are safe and accounted for.
