Hello all looking to see if somebody can point me in the right direction. I have an 05 4.0 that needs an engine replacement. I’ve read that I am not able to put an engine from later years because of certain sensors that are different on it? I’ve seen people install engines from tacomas does anybody know which years I should be searching for? And any website people have bought an engine from? Thanks in advance!

Good junk yard used parts listing web site - have used for other parts but not had the need to buy an engine. It does address interchange meaning that if they list it for your vehicle, supposedly it will work. Generally, when you install a "new" used engine, you need to install the old sensors and actuators from your existing engine so that everything is compatible with the existing computer/EMS.

If you think a rebuilt engine is the way you want to go this website has engines with an optional 7 year 1,000,000 mile warranty, and they will honor that even for DYIers installing the engine.
