So had dealership do an 1000 mi oil change and they put a 04152-yzza4 oil filter and not a yzza5. Is this going to cause issues? I plan to call them tomorrow but hope it doesn’t damage anything.

Did you pull off the filter cap and physically check, or just going off the invoice? A4 is a good 30mm taller than A5. I don't think it would fit in the 4Runner filter housing unless it's crushed:
    https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=6391386&cc=0&pt=5340&jsn=693

A4's O-ring is also 2mm smaller, which would be another indicator to the lube tech that it's the wrong filter.

I don’t have a way to check and haven’t ever done oil changes myself. It was on the invoice. Gasket part number listed is 90430-12031

^I'm talking about the O-ring on the filter cap that is replaced with each filter change:

^Don't remember, and it won't show up as a line item on the invoice, because it's always included with the filter.

Toyota does offer the O-ring separately, but it costs almost as much as a filter.

Early first oil change is important to get abrasive metal particles out of the engine, if left for the full oil change duration interval it causes additional and avoidable wear.

Since it’s larger than the original, you would think they would caught the error.

Maybe they charged you for the filter, but just left the old one in. That’s not unheard of.

I’d still ask for them to fix the problem, since it’s possible they actually did change the filter and crushed it. Or at least refund you the money so a different shop can do it.

I mean, it might…. But assuming they added oil after draining it, it should be ok.

Hmmm…@Rnrdani , you checked they put oil back in, right?

So was there a solution to this wrong filter installation, or do we get left wondering?

Another piece of information that would be helpful is the name of the dealership where this was done, so anyone around you can be sure to avoid going there for service. Especially if the dealership wouldn't correct the issue.

The dealership said it was an invoice error as the filter indicated on it is too large to fit in the housing. Dealership is in Oregon and I can be messaged if someone wants to know.

It's 2024, the PC term is rapid unscheduled disassembly.

Just checked my inventory in the garage.
The filter on the right is the part# for my 2007 Tundra
The filter on the left is for the 2022 4Runner.

    Hope this helps

No need to name the dealership if it was indeed a clerical error and the right filter was used. I just hadn't heard and was wondering about the outcome. So many threads get started with issues owners are dealing with, and a lot don't ever come back with the resolution, in case someone has a similar issue.

True, apologies. They didn’t lift the runner and check per se but said the filter on the invoice wouldn’t fit the canister.

Hopefully they actually changed the filter..
    No one would know..

That is why it is better to change yourself....
