You are a good parent. America needs more parents like you. Sales and Biochemistry, way to go. Send the smart young lady to the Bay Area once she is done with her degree.

Feel free to go down to your local university and ask the English and Literature PH.D. students if they are so happy they don't care about money anymore.

She wants to stay away from liberal states, living in the Peoples Republic of Illinois has taught her a lot. Plus, she wants to live somewhere warm where the people are nice.

You also have to consider that a quality LED bulbs will last much longer than an incandescent bulb, and they only use about 10% of the energy.

I can consider it, but the evidence based on my own use doesn't support it to the degree people would like for us to believe.

Plus, they're not for crap in the garage door openers, nor in that tiny receptacle above the water dispenser on the fridge.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not totally against them. Heck, I love them in the small machines we've built. I love some of the LED taillight setups out there (and some of them kinda suck), despite their serious added cost.

I'll admit they're great for some applications, but not all. Having LEDs essentially forced on us in large scale [for home use, in particular] just simply irks the crap out of me.

Sorry that your garage door opener and fridge came with shitty bulbs. That doesn't change the fact that they're more efficient and last longer than incandescent.

My living room, which is admittedly not big, is more than bright enough with 7 lights that draw 9 watts apiece (63 watts total). I generally keep them dimmed to about 50% unless I'm cleaning in there. And, I'm a person who likes bright lighting.

Every light in every commercial building we install is now LED. Metal halide, high pressure sodium, and fluorescent are all obsolete. Just like residential applications, the early LED's were not as good as what we have now.

If you're basing your opinion on the early LED's that came around 20 years ago, I'd recommend giving them another try. They've gotten much better.

I'll add that I'm not in favor of the government trying to force people into a specific type of product. But, that's irrelevant now, as there's literally 0 advantage to incandescent lighting in almost any scenario.

While I don't agree entirely with your point of view, I appreciate your sharing it.

Honestly, it's probably something I'd enjoy having a beer with you and discussing further. :^)

Dealerships are good at playing Tetris with cars so even if room is tight they will fit the new 4Rs in there.

The benefits of LED over incandescent are huge. Longer life, lower energy usage, less heat created, more durable, more color temperature options, some have tunable light color now with a switch on the fixture.

Selectable color temperature is a great feature! A lot of the commercial ones we put in also have selectable maximum output, although I typically set those to the maximum setting, especially if they are on a dimmer.
