Too lenient? Evidently the mods either are watching or were alerted... several posts have gone missing entirely.

Wonder if my local dealer is going to buy up even more of the town, to have room for all those Tacomas? ;)

Well if you consider my posts political then we'll have to agree to disagree.

A lot of things have changed in the past 15 years since the 5th gen was released until this new 6th gen. There appear to be several of us who don't want or like the tech for the sake of minuscule gas milage savings in the name of saving the planet. I feel there will be a tradeoff in long term reliability, but that remains to be seen. If the 6th gen ends up being crushed and used to populate a landfill or junkyard at an even slightly lessor timeline as the 5th gen, then I would argue it's worse, not better, for the environment. Not to mention the extra parts and resources needed to produce a more technical product in the first place.

Just like the LED bulbs -- and CFL before them -- that "they" want us to use in our homes.
More complex, more expensive, worse for the land when they go in the landfill. All in the name of "green."

Looking at the unit sales from 2010 to 2024, I can see why Toyota stuck with the 5th gen for so long.

That’s the problem. The people making the rules only think about emissions. They don’t think about how much energy and fossil fuels are used to make these products or what to do with them when they are no longer functional. I have to believe that a simple long lasting vehicle is much better for the environment than a more complex one that puts out slightly less emissions but doesn’t last as long. Then throw in the batteries of hybrids…mining of minerals, recycling, etc.

I read once that more energy is expended in the production of a vehicle than it will consume in its useful life. ICE vehicles included.

That seems plausible considering how many parts there are in a vehicle and the manufacturing processes and raw materials needed for each of them.

    Yes.
That’s one of several reasons I have kept my 22-year-old Nissan on the road.

Ant that’s part of how we get $800-3500 taillight assemblies.

new tech is poop. Heck I’d take a car with manual roll up windows if they still made it an option

you will see big dips during generational change years. people hold out for the next gen to release to decide to buy old or new gen

    2009 5th gen
    2025 6th gen

2013/2014 was the major refresh on the 5th gen. the refresh is what pushed me to get my 2014 4runner limited.

Haha. While I agree wholeheartedly with your premise, I disagree with your example. The daily driver I had for 12 years previous to my 4Runner had manual roll up windows. Leaning over from the driver’s seat to roll up the passenger window was tiresome.

Good if you love working for peanuts. A kid in his T shirt without a degree will be making more than you developing apps and websites, infact freelancing without a boss. Times have changed

It's been known for centuries that professorship especially in humanities subjects is a pyramid scheme. for every 100 PHD students passing their committees, there are only single digits of tenure track positions out there, the hiring is highly political, and the rest are on their own to either work as poorly paid lecturers or associate faculty, post docs, or find their own way to make a living.

That's the real world, you need money or a marketable skill to survive.

Some people just enjoy teaching. Like I said it’s not all about the money. Plus the majority of people live in two income households these days.

Yes it is. You need money for life. Kids should be taught how to make money in freaking primary school.

If you enjoy teaching, then become an engineer in the industry then teach that. Teachers are all talk no action, that's why they are paid peanuts.

It’s obvious you care more about money than happiness. Not everyone feels the same way. Let’s just leave it at that.

You are never free if you are not financially stable, that's the truth of life. I am not saying chase billions, but make enough to be free. The little shop owner(Him and his 20 year old son) that regeared my 4R is more free than that passionate teacher who is working for 60k. Sorry, that passion is worthless.

Life is what you make of it, having money makes things easier. We taught our kids to be responsible adults. Our son is in sales and makes in the mid six figures, our daughter will graduate in May with majors in Bio Chem and Math with a minor in Spanish. She will graduate with zero debt. I like to think all of the time we spent with them made them good kids. A wise man once told me, you will never look back and think "I spent too much time with my kids". Enjoy life, be nice to people, it goes by in the blink of an eye.
