I’m new to this forum. I talked a guy down to $1,800 for a 1988 v6 4Runner with plenty of surface rust on the frame and heavy rust on the wheel wells. There also seems to be a manifold leak because it has almost no power when I hit the gas. It also needs the brake lines redone.

I’m hoping to get a some thoughts on if it’s worth it.

hopefully the video and pics uploaded.

Is this a serious question? If so...
You're definitely buying more rust than 4Runner.
I wouldn't even take it for free.

what's the interior look like? While it's pretty hammered as a driver, it may be worth it for parting out

What's the mat for? To catch the parts as they fall off?

The wheels and tires look ok, but I would assume the tires are dried out. I think the cap might be sellable - people look for those. The sliding windows appear to be intact, and I've seen requests for those, as thieves break them first. The rusted trim piece at the bottom of the sliders is just that - a trim piece. Also, I've seen several posts over the years from people desperate to get a tailgate window, in case that's intact. If the owner will donate it to you, maybe you could make a few bucks parting it out. But not worth it to purchase the vehicle.

    Welcome!
I'd avoid this unless you're really handy with a welder and want to fix it up and make this thing a crawler. I love wheeling with first gens as they are very capable machines, but it will be a money pit to fix up... Even if you do everything yourself.

It'd help to the forum if you state your intended use for it. If you're intending to build it up for wheeling many things will get replaced and it starts to make more sense. If it's something you want to restore and drive around town I'd continue my search. Especially if you cant do the rust repair yourself.

I love the 1st generation 4runner. But I'd pass on that, just because that'll be a very intense project, and unless your after a total restoration project.

I do think if it was total restored it would bring good money in today's market
