Anyone have experience with EcoFlow 800W Alternator Charger? Thinking of getting one. Also interested in the best way to run the cables to the battery from the back.

    Thanks in advance.

I think Tinkerers Adventure is the better way to go because it will work with any device needing power, not just an EcoFlow.

But I can't think of a good place to mount the DC to DC converter.

Saw that right before I posted. Agree, not loving having to mount. That’s why I though just running a cable directly to a delta 3 plus would easy… until I realized I’d probably have to strap down the delta 3 plus at a minimum.

Some. Have had one for about a month. Setup super easy (I did get an error msg on first trip that just needed a software update to resolve), ran cable thru existing fire wall opening on driver side, charge unit is under driver seat w/ Delta 2 batt in rear pass footwell. Temporary for now while I get comfortable with the app and how it all works. Definitely enough cable length to reach back of 4R. Also, have Jackery 500 that is kind of a pain to keep charged off inverter while driving and solar when camped. The Ecoflow system seems to be the solution for me. ReCharges Delta 2 quick, will also charge Jackery (plugged into Delta 2) at same time. Also, found out Delta 2 can run a diesel heater! Just returned from a 3 nite trip with Jackery powering Ref. and Delta 2 powering heater with no issues or lack of power. No longer using 4R inverter or charge points. Connect all my gadgets iPad, phone, flashlights and flashing dog collar to Delta 2 for recharge as needed. Will eliminate Jackery when it dies. But, for now I like the overkill!!

Great! I’ve heard some folks waking up to a dead battery. Hoping that’s user error.

I followed his setup. I mounted the converter in the driver's side tray in the rear cargo area. I popped out the tray, drilled 4 holes, and mounted it on rubber washers. I drilled two holes in the side of the tray to run the ground and power cables through. I drilled a third small hole for the trigger wire.

I grounded the converter to a bolt behind the rear cargo panel. The power cable runs through the cab along the driver's side and through the firewall to the battery.

I have the trigger wire hooked to one of the switches in my 8 place switch panel. It's nice to press a switch to toggle the charger on and off.

I've had this setup for about 6 months now and it works great.

Got any pictures? Do you have any type of rubber covering the binding posts of the converter to prevent accidental contact of the "hot" posts?

    I'll get pictures later.

I put rubber terminal protectors on all of the posts on the converter.

No, ran thru existing opening. Finger touching wire/cable in photo, approx 1/2” dia.
Not electric savvy, so liked the simplicity of the install.

A couple of pictures of my victron setup. I have the trigger wire hooked to my switch setup.

Hard to see the rubber protectors over the exposed electrical connectors.

Are you all still running stock size battery and stock alternator for your inverters?

Mine has been sitting in my office for months. I am thinking of installing soon. I just put in the Garmin PowerSwitch ready to run kit from Blaze so it’s pretty crowded on the drivers side. Would the power cord reach from the passenger side or would it just make sense to run from drivers side still?

Ok - so I installed mine today, and I’m having trouble. I connected the positive to the battery AND the ground to the negative of my battery.

while driving just now, the vehicle completely shut off. It was running fine on the freeway for about 15mins, but once I got downtown, a few times it completely killed the vehicle. It will start back up and go for several blocks, but then dies again.

im assuming this is an alternator issue?

I also didn’t update any firmware on the device after install.

thoughts? Hoping this thing doesn’t kill the truck while im on the freeway?

Sorry to hear this. I had heard a few folks having this issue so I returned mine. Never heard of any reasons or fixes… keep us posted.

I would double check all the connections and update both the app and battery. I would also check that the app for the alt charger is set to ‘Charge’ the Reverse charge or Battery maintenance might cause an issue? I would guess EcoFlow has some kind of safety for that not to cause an issue. I had an issue with the alt charger not charging the battery, I was in back country, tech support emailed a link that I was able to install via coffe shop wifi in the next town

Welp it stranded me in an intersection, completely shut down, no lights, no nothing….completely dead. Had to have traffic redirected….called a tow truck, then as I’m waiting the truck beeped….and it let me start it. Drive like 5 blocks to a hardware store to get a cheap socket set to remove the device from the battery, and the battery is dead. Decided to grab food while waiting on it to miraculously let me start it again.

fingers crossed it will, otherwise hopefully I can get a jump from someone.

Wouldn’t start at first. Sat for 5 mins and then it started. :notsure::notsure:

got it home, driving roughly 15-20mi home. I would’ve expected that to be enough to recharge the battery, but as soon as I turned it off in my driveway, it would no longer start. I have a NORCO jump box which got it started and into my garage.

I plugged my trickle charger in and the battery was fully charged in less than 5mins. Yet it won’t start now.

This makes me wonder if the alternator has been fried?

what else could it be? Thoughts?

I'm been running mine off of the starting AGM X2 bluetop 27F battery for three weeks now, with no issues. I ran the cable from the unit in the cargo area, through the driver's side passenger threshold and driver's threshold up through the firewall under the dash to the battery, no issues. I recommend taping off the positive to the negative, throw a large hd zip tie on the negative and fish it through the firewall; super easy.
I also kept the dual battery system powered by redarc (BCDC1225); no issues there either. The Ecoflow alternator charger is one of the best charging systems I've ever owned. Charges in minutes at 800w.

God, I’m really late to this thread. Mine ran fine, with just a little issue with finding the right voltage to trigger it to run (sometimes I need to drop the threshold to 12.5V, and then put it back to 13.5V). I took my Delta 2 Max out in Nov., and will be putting it back in maybe late April. Hopefully there has been a software update.

Why not mount it inside the wheel well cover? That’s what I did when I had mine. Then I drilled a hole to vent for heat, and 3D printed a cover.

Because I have my drawer system in the back and the tower that holds my Ecoflow already mostly blocks the wheel cover, it's sort of a dead space anyway. I wanted the converter to get maximum airflow to prevent any heat issues.

When I mounted the unit, I also put in rubber spacers under the unit on the mounting bolts so that it gets airflow underneath as well.
