Just purchased a CPO ‘22 4Runner three days ago and the cabin pressure is rough. I see one other post on this topic but author never posted what her outcome was. My notion is that regardless of settings, recirculating air or not, the cabin pressure should not be like this. Doors close fine. All windows/roof open and close fine. I feel like I’m in an airplane. Air tight ear pops. Its head pressure, headache and ears. Even nausea. It’s like I’m in a tank. Help. I read the manual, nothing on this.

I've been around 4Runners for years and own 2, plus a 22 Honda Accord Sport Hybrid and a Land Cruiser. I don't sense any difference in the cabin pressure in either 4Runner vs. the others, or any of the other cars I operate. I am a pilot and spend lots of time in pressurized aircraft where I am responsible to manage cabin altitude for my passengers.

I would suggest that you take this to the dealership where you purchased it and get your complaint in the system. All CPO's come with an enhanced bumper-to-bumper warranty. Next, invest in an inexpensive barometric pressure meter and take the pressure readings outside your 4Runner before you start it, then after you get in after you start it. Take pictures of the readings and show the dealership. The only possible explanation for this is clogged exit vents for the HVAC. FWIW, the barometric pressure on a standard day at sea level is 29.92.

You have...headache and nausea from riding in your 4Runner? From "cabin pressure?" I think your problems are elsewhere.

I would look at the cabin vent in the rear bumper to make sure they’re not clogged

    Oooh look, another mod.....

    AI Overview

If you're experiencing high cabin pressure in your SUV, it usually means there's a blockage in the air circulation system, preventing fresh air from entering and causing a build-up of air inside the vehicle, potentially due to issues with the vents, cabin air filter, or even a faulty door seal that isn't properly sealing the cabin.

Possible causes for high cabin pressure in an SUV:
    • Clogged cabin air filter:
A dirty or clogged air filter restricts airflow, leading to increased pressure inside the cabin.

    • Faulty vent actuators:
If the vent actuators that control air direction are malfunctioning, they might not be properly directing airflow, causing pressure build-up.

    • Stuck air recirculation button:
If the recirculation button is stuck on, the car will only circulate the existing air inside the cabin, leading to increased pressure.

    • Damaged door seals:
Worn or damaged door seals can allow air to leak in, but not out, leading to pressure build-up.

    • Blocked vents:
Debris or obstructions in the vents can restrict airflow.

    • Faulty blower motor:
A malfunctioning blower motor can't effectively circulate air, causing pressure issues.
    What to do:
    • Check the cabin air filter: Replace the air filter if it's dirty or clogged.

    • Inspect the vents: Check for any visible obstructions in the vents and clean them if necessary.

    • Check the recirculation button: Ensure the recirculation button is not stuck on.

    • Examine door seals: Inspect door seals for any signs of wear or damage and replace if needed.

    • Check the blower motor: Listen for any unusual noises from the blower motor and have it checked by a mechanic if suspecting a problem.

    • Consult a mechanic: If the problem persists after checking these basic elements, consult a qualified mechanic to diagnose and address the issue with your vehicle's air circulation system.

    Welcome to the forum.

As an interim measure you could lower the rear hatch window a smidge. This will allow the pressure inside to equalize with the pressure outside.

There’s pressure relief vents at the rear bumper sides. Check to see if they’re plugged but I doubt it.

@missy772 when driving, do you have the same sensation with the moonroof "tilted up" (meaning not open like a window).

Is there a way to check without removing the rear bumper plastic?

I’d first vent the rear glass a smidge and drive it a while to make sure there’s a difference before digging around too deeply. Otherwise, have the service dept do an inspection on all that’s been listed here. Won’t take them long.

Worst case scenario, you could always trade it off on a Wrangler. Absolutely no air pressure in that cabin. Good luck!
