My Daughter bought a 24 3/4 ton last Nov right off thectruck for just over 61,000 and it was loaded z71 4x4 6.2 with the Allison towing and camera package, leather cooled and heated, I think the only option that wasnt there was the moon roof. Floored me when she pulled up in it and told me the price. I would have guessed 80 at least with the prices these days.

Just payed my ORP off this month, could have paid cash but borrowed 20 and paid it off in 6 months just to get the bump on the credit score. I couldn't imagine having a 7 8 or 900 dollar car payment for 7 or more years, I remember when the longest loan you could get on a car was 3 years.

It depends on the interest rate. If you can make a higher percentage by investing your money than the interest rate the bank is charging then you are better off to let the bank front the money for the car while you use your own money to make more money. It’s even better if you invest that money pre tax like a 401K.

Very true, but the current rate environment makes the bogey a lot higher for expected return you'll be earning in place of taking on financing since car loans are priced like 7-10%+ now. Back when rates were 0-2%, borrowing the entirety of the purchase price made sense even if you had a down payment.

I drive a lifted limited in ATX! Really wanted any other trim but I got it at an auction in 2017 for $27k with only 30k miles so couldn't pass that up. I dont think I could go without ventilated seats now.

I wonder what Trump's promised high tariffs will do to the price of these vehicles.

A Tacoma TRD Pro made with the cheapest labor in North America is still $8 grand more than a Ranger Raptor made by the UAW in Detroit.

Nevermind what Trump might do; it looks to me like Toyota has already given us heavy tariffs.

In the late 80's, congress put a 25% tariff on 2 door trucks which included the 4Runner and Pathfinder. In 1990 the price of those rose over $5k and spelled the end of the 2 doors. And that is when they were priced in the upper teens. Imagine what a 25% tariff will do the $50k vehicle?

The Ineos truck is around $20K more than the SUV. Most likely because of the chicken tax. That’s why Toyota made its pickups here. They are going to have to move production back to the US if they want sales to continue or eat the tariff costs. Only fools will pay more than the already inflated Toyota tax.

Nothing wrong with financing responsibly as a practical tool to pay off your vehicle.

But, financing a Gen4 Taco or Gen6 4R or LC250 over seven or more years at 8+ points just because Toyota jacked the MSRP’s is a slightly worse idea than wire-transferring money to an anonymous person emailing you from overseas.

If you already have a deal like that, get the heck out of it. And if you were considering it, look long and hard at cheaper alternatives that won’t tilt your debt ratio to oblivion.

Making the Taco in Mexico is juts pure, naked, unadulterated greed. Nissan makes the Frontier in Mississippi. Ford makes the Ranger in Michigan, and the GM Canyorado twins are made in Missouri. Toyota is the only one that makes a "midsize"(LOL) pickup in Mexico in the whole segment.

They used to make the Taco in NUMMI in Fremont, CA. Then they closed NUMMI, laid a bunch of people off and moved it to Texas, and even then it wasn't enough margins so Baja and Guanajuato it goes. Toyota made the bed themselves. They can figured it out I am sure.

Have current high prices prevent any Taco bros from buying them? The prices already increase 30-40% since 2019 without rise in tariff rates. Now Toyota knows they can keep raising prices and still get enough takers.

Toyota’s truck buyers historically are its most loyal followers. They’ll literally argue that the sun rises in the West, if it defends the honor of their Tacoma/4Runner/Tundra.

It’s clear now that TNGA-F is a platform designed to cut internal costs, in order to help finance some ambiguous EV future.

But by also choosing to charge customers so much more, Toyota forces their fanbase to decide between taking on even greater debt for longer periods of time, or just being shut out of getting a new one altogether. That’s a bummer.

    10yr car loan, wtf???

Never heard of such a thing. I don't think I've heard of anything over 5yr.

If you can't pay off a car within 5yr, def shouldn't be buying it, from a financial perspective.

People aren’t getting raises to match these crazy escalating car prices so what can they do other than take out a longer loan and hope the vehicle outlives the loan. That’s a big gamble these days.

I'm old enough to remember when 3 years was the typical car loan, when it jumped to just 4 years my Dad said he would die before paying for a vehicle for 4 years. I couldn't imagine 10 years. I have friends that are paying 12 to 15 hundred a month for vehicles and insurance for 7 + years. Don't understand it

I do understand why people do this, as it is very hard to accept loss of quality of life due to loss of your purchasing power. When a typical person used to be able to afford a new car just a few years ago, they still expect to do so today especially if they have the same job with the same salary. So everyone loads up on loans, then the entire system collapses when people start defaulting. What happening now in auto industry will be comparable to 2008 in housing. It is the same thing, but with cars.

Anecdotally, I paid about the same price for my 2024 4Runner that I paid for a brand new exotic car less than a decade ago.

We need people like that to keep the economy expanding, that makes retirement a lot easier for those who save and invest. If we have an entire country full of savers then we end up looking like Japan or China. Cars are depreciating assets that would eventually be worthless(for the most part), the risk of default is already written into the loan terms so who am I to argue when wage-slaves keep paying loan interets into the financial system and companies, while working and coping via retail therapy. Everyone who invested over the past several decades have these spenders to thank for their portfolios keeping going up.

My world view is that it is better to be the saver among spenders, than to be spenders among savers. Maybe Aristotle or Confucius said something like that, wouldn't surprise me.

So aren't 4Runners a bit pricier than Tacomas? If that is the case then would a TRD Pro 4Runner be pushing 70k?

My guess top 4Runner will come just under top LC, because interior isn't as nice as LC interior.

All three use same engine, same tranny.

    Top LC 74
    Top 4Runner 72
    Top Tacoma 70

It’s mind boggling that people will/are paying that much money for a Toyota.
