What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Tire rotation yesterday. Went to a different Discount Tire and they got it right. The wobble is no more. Oil change this morning.

 

So far really enjoying the change in road manners and feel just from a tire size and type change, plus the feedback and ride quality.

 

drove 4R to Starbucks for the old lady’s peppermint mocha, and to the beer store for my favourite beer ever. i just enjoy driving the truck for anything

 

You make a good point there, J -- I do feel like the ride is better with these Coopers than with the OE Dunlops. I'm sure there's a difference for you, too, having come off of those 20-inchers.

Even the missus said she couldn’t believe how much of a difference they made. And surprising, I know we can’t really trust the mpg readout but without changing my driving style it was reading that I was getting about 1.5 mpg better, and since the overall diameter was only .01 different I can only attribute it to the tires and rim change. Going to math it out tonight to see what the weight differences are for the old versus new and see if it’s true or just in my mind.

I'll be curious what you find out. I do wonder if the weight difference between the 20" and the 17" wheels is significant.

 

Looks good but would look great if the stripe on the sides actually lined up with the black strip on the back.

 

Bought a Total Chaos Body Mount Chop Plate off 4RunnerLifestyle website. Not overly expensive and something that needs to be done. Now I gotta find a decent welding shop that'll do this. If anyone has had this done to your 4R, what did a shop charge you? I have absolutely no clue what they charge. But I'm just looking for ball park figures.

 

Limited with OR wheels look correct.

 

20 in Firestone destination le3 are 36lbs each, 17 in cooper road and trail a/t are 41 lbs each, limited 20 inch rims are 40lbs each, orp 17 inch rims are 25lbs each, so provided I didn’t fat finger the math the differences come down to 304lbs for 4 20s and 264 for 4 17s, using discount tire for the tire weight and trail4runnerdotcom for the rim weights. Give or take a few ounces for tpms and tread wear lol. So the butt Dyno was accurate it seems?

 

Agreed, I have @vthoky to thank for the deal on the rims. I was keeping an eye out and he heard me poking around the forums trying to get off the 20s. Made a world of difference in 1 day to me.

(that included fender mount chop&weld)

 

Theres a small muffler shop here in town. They usually do good work. Might get them to do it (if they will).

Man, you lost 10 pounds per corner... and the butt dyno proves it!

 

Apex Overland, the shop that installed my skids, is offering a bmc for $340 including the plates. While I don’t need it yet, I’m still considering doing it.

 

Very happy with it. And just put up a huge sale post in the marketplace to try and clear out my growing trade pile including the takeoffs now.

 

This is the 2nd time. The rake of this windshield seems to catch rocks

 

It is a magnet, the week after I got mine replaced I thought it had happened again. I spoke to my insurance agent and they said 4Runners have one of the highest replacement rates.

 

That stinks!
