They're going to happen. I have PPF over the front and ceramic over the entire truck. They did paint correction prior to all of that. Now I do a rinse less wash (ONR or recently changed to DIYDetail) every 2-3wks with one bucket, grit guard, and the Ultra Black Sponge. I have tiny swirls that can only been seen when the light hits it just the right way, but otherwise they are not noticeable. It still looks fantastic after a wash and I still find myself doing a double-take when I look at it.

All of that to say, it is what it is. This is a 4Runner, not a 911 turbo. The swirls are nothing compared to the marks I expect it to get when I take it off roading.

What're you all in for with the PPF and ceramic?

It was ~$4000. $2000 for the front PPF (XPEL Ultimate Plus) and $2000 for Ceramic for the entire 4R (Ceramic XPEL Fusion Plus Premium).

I went down a deep rabbit hole in regards to car detailing when I first bought the 4R and bought all the crap like a Ryobi 1800PSI pressure washer, MTM foam cannon + gun, and the Gtechniq line of detailing products including the W4 Citrus Foam, W3 ceramic GWash, and C2 ceramic sealant. I even bought 2 buckets, 2 grit guards, a ton of the Rag Company's Eagle Edgeless microfiber cloths, and their drying towel (the gauntlet). I used techniques that I learned from YouTube including long longitudinal wipes with the microfiber during washing as well as drying since it is the contact parts of the wash that risk swirls.

All of that to say that it was kind of pointless IMO. To keep a vehicle showroom quality requires way too much effort and time and is unreasonable for a majority of people. If I could do it all over, I would probably still get the PPF and the ceramic since it protects the front from rock chips and makes washing a breeze. I would probably just stick with the rinse less wash with the Ultra Black Sponge every 2-3 weeks. I've gotten very efficient with the rinse less wash, which now only takes me about 30min. I still use my pressure washer when I get home from camping or after taking the 4R on the beach.

I agree with you. I was on the same path and stopped at the ceramic. Have the other goods for detailing from other vehicles, but didnt do ppf due to cost and figured it was an endless chore. It shows dust in a day just from sitting in the garage......

Thanks! It is a stock TRD Pro. I sold the Nittos immediately and bought BF Goodrich KO3 275/70/17 tires. I recently added a Gobi stealth rack.

For sure, appreciate it. I'd probably slip down the same rabbit hole if it wasn't for your advice.

Thanks I'm really happy with it. I got the Stealth with the sunroof cutout panel. It's pretty awesome. Gobi did the install since I'm local.

I'll probably create a build thread for my rig when I have time. It's coming together.

That Gobi rack looks so good. Almost a throw back landcruiser looking. I was 100% sold on the crestone but not anymore, that thing is sweet

To give you an estimate on Gobi lead times, I ordered on Sept 1st and they installed Oct 29th. So at the time it was roughly 8 weeks.

    Good luck with your decision!

Anybody running bronze wheels on their UG rig?
I haven’t come across any decent pictures to make my mind up on wheel color.

The Underground paint has been a "unique" experience. Sometimes it looks very dark charcoal, sometimes black, and sometimes light gray depending on how the light hits it and I actually like that. It doesn't show dirt as bad as black does (I also have a black Honda CR-V), and doesn't show scratches as bad as black does.

It's not a metallic paint, and so it does show swirl marks more readily than some of the metallic colors I've had on other cars and I'm pretty good about not scratching it when I wash it or dry it. I was actually surprised to see some swirl marks in just the four months I've had it. It's not too bad yet and at some point, I'll get out the buffer and deal with it.

It has PPF on the hood and front that was installed by Toyota Southeast before I got it at the dealer. I've never had PPF before, and the jury is still out for me on if I like it or not. I tend to touch up and paint correct / buff out anything once a year or so and not sure how that will work with the PPF on the hood.

I did not put ceramic, but did put a paint sealant on it and that seriously helps with preventing water spots.
