Piece of mind and a piece of your paycheck.

Change your oil frequently and use reasonably priced stuff. (Costco/Wal-Mart/Amazon all tested very well on Project Farm).

Speaking of YouTube channels, Speed Lake Jr. has a channel of his own. He used to be on The Joe Gibbs Racing Team. From prefilling your oil filter to doing a break-in oil change, he actually gets into doing it and testing the results. He seems to be a great resource. The channel is called The Motor Oil Geek.

Sent samples for VOA, need the better one for my turbo GX550. Fingers crossed that Penzzoil does almost as good as the other two and I then I will stick to Pennzoil. I am a Pennzoil fanboy lol.

The Motor Oil Geek has lots of good things to say about Pennzoil Ultra Platinum full synthetic.

I have been using Quaker State Full Synthetic for a few years now because in testing, Bob's The Oil Guy says Quaker State is better at not breaking down under a high load. Not that my T4R will ever see that, but possibly under the worst possible conditions on a very hot summer day.

PUP is pretty good. I am just curious how much morr Boron and Moly HPL and Amsoil have. HPL has an insane TBN of 13.5, it is the King of long OCIs, I am not interested in that. But if HPL has boatloads of more Moly and Boron, I might choose over Pennzoil

Like I said before I've been using Pennzoil since 1998 after trading 1993 Mustang GT W/115k (Used Mobil 1 & only vehicle I've owned new sine 1985 W/over 100K on it) If it's good enough for Roger Penske Racing it's good enough for my vehicles.

How about switching it up every couple of changes.
All synthetics seem reliable for 5,000 miles. But brands have their own additive packages, so by rotating brands you might benefit with a variety of cleaning and lubing engine internals?

The next level of engine oil lubrication detail is the plus and minus of grade 4 base to grade 5 base.
I believe a judge ruled that oil producers can use term synthetic for grade 4 base oil feedstock when prior to lawsuit synthetic applied to grade 5 base feedstocks only.
Then their is the argument that the additive package is what makes a premium oil ideal for engines. The base 4 or 5 is less important than the additives.

They don't even have dealers like Amsoil. Buying from them directly online is the only way. So $29 shipping sucked

I only use one brand of oil, and I will never change. The cheapest synthetic i can find.

To answer Yotaholic, I reviewed the chemical engineering stuff I read years ago about lubrication design. I remembered one grade stood above the common grade. Seems that is actually grade 4 base. While more available and therefore cost effective is grade 3 base.
I mis-spoke about 5 base. See excerpt below.

Damn I've been using Pennzoil Platinum all this time, instead of Pennzoil *Ultra* Platinum. Probably have to get the engine rebuilt...

Probably time to part it out before it implodes.

Or, just keep doing oil changes at whatever interval you feel comfortable with and you will be fine.
