I swapped out this past week the OEM battery that left my wife stranded for a new Interstate one and after the switch, upon the first time starting up, the truck stalled after firing up. The vehicle is bone stock.

I looked in the manual for any reason this would happen and I did find the following on page 515 from the 2020 manual.

"The engine may not start on the first attempt after the battery has been recharged but will start normally after the second attempt. This is not a malfunction."

Does anyone have any further idea why this happens and is part of the normal operation? I have never encountered this with any other vehicle. It seems quite peculiar.

I am not concerned however, since the manual states this may happen-just looking to satiate my curiosity further.

The engine control unit (ECU) stores information in memory about the parameters that it uses and when the battery is disconnected the power is removed from the ECU and the memory is cleared.

What you experienced is normal as the ECU needs to relearn the information as the engine runs. Just drive it and all will be well after a few starts, driving and shutdowns.

Completely normal. Same thing happens when you have to disconnect the battery to clear up issues. What @2Toys said is accurate about the ECU dumping stored information.

This is good info. Can't say I've ever had a vehicle do this after changing batteries so I'd wonder why it happened too.

I'm glad to hear this is normal. I installed a remote start on my 23 two months ago. After hooking the battery back up, my 4runner stalled after the first start attempt. I thought I had messed something up but it hasn't happened again, although I have been worried about it since. Well, I won't worry anymore. Thank you
