That's pretty cool. Begs the question of why not use the Tacoma. But I guess this is Toyota's Hold My Beer build for SEMA, so why the heck not.

This is cool and such option expands use cases for people that not-quite but need a truck bed.

Hopefully they also make rear seats removable and not just foldable.

I like the concept but once again more giant, shiny black plastic fender flares. Looks like it came from a kid's toy bin with barbie and ken dolls in the front seats.

An XtraCab Tacoma with a cap, roll bars, and carpeted bed might’ve looked better, while also being more faithful to what the ‘84 4Runner actually was.

Chopping up a brand new 4Runner instead looks like a modern interpretation of an Isuzu Amigo.

The front seats are said to fold forward. Probably borrowed from the Tacoma Xtra Cab.

Anyway, zero chance this will reach production. Previous SEMA builds: Taco access cab short bed with 4.7L V8, Taco with independent rear suspension, Tundra dually with Hino diesel, X-Runner with TRD supercharged 5.7L...

Watch the video below, they literally show you and tell you how they are making the passengers front seat fold to access the rear seats.

In the 5th gen 4R with 3rd row the second row seats fold and flip up. In the video above it would appear they have a second row seat out of a 3rd row 4R disassembled without padding and are demonstrating how it folds and flips. The 1st gen sequoia and 1st gen DoubleCab Tundra also did the same.

^A lot more options when you don't have to worry about curtain airbags or occupant classification sensors lol.

Still wish I'd pulled the cap off my 1988 just once.

    I like this concept.

not actually functional for surf boards but it could look cool if they got rid of some of that overdone badging and remove "surf" from the sides of it
