2012 4Runner rust. Is this maintainable or run?

Looking at a 2012 4Runner nearby. It has 180,000 miles and is about $13,500

however it has seen some rust. I am wondering if given the price, and longevity of the 4Runner if this rust means it’s toast or if it can be slowed and maintained with Krown? I do live in Michigan so it will be seeing more snow, slush, salt.

 

Are we seeing the worst? Where the trailing arms attach are usually the worst. If nothing pokes through I would pressure wash, spray the crap out of it with Cosmoline rust converter, in and out of the frame. Wait 48hrs to cure and then Cosmoline 342 Black the heck out of it-in and out. Takes about 5-6 cans.

 

I would give this a miss. To much work needs to be done to make it a daily and then make it last. Search on.

 

Take a closer look at the front crossmember below the condenser and rear tow hitch crossmember. They are covered by bumper plastic and trap a lot of water and salt, so they'll go first. If you see perforations, walk away. Aside from that, yearly Krown treatment should keep it going for another 5 years or so.

That looks fine. If you think it’s a good price: Harbor freight wire wheel kit and a battery angle grinder, a couple afternoons and done. I just did a 14’ that was way worse. All those spots in frame with drilled holes, tap them with a hammer a few taps and that puffed out rust falls right off. That’s just surface rust anyway.

buy a few quarts of woolwax creep and crawl and a cheap spray gun. Dries like wax eventually and makes stuff look new and lasts 3-5 years.
