My insurance went up again for the 3rd straight year, on my 2008 4Runner.

This time around, USAA wanted $725 per 6 months and this is with minimal coverage. Haven't had a ticket, tow, crash, or claim ever on this vehicle. For a vehicle this old, this number seems insane.

Called up Geico and selected same coverage options, and it was $400. I added a little bit more coverage and it ended up being $440 so now I'm with Geico.

I shopped around before adding to current insurance.

    USAA quoted me $728
Connect (Costco) is $328, stayed with them as we’ve had it for years.

both for 6 months, same coverage, same deductible, multi vehicle discount.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I switch carriers every few years, because I shop it around every time it's up for renewal. 3yrs ago I was with Progressive. But they tried to raise my rates, so I switched to Geico and got a small reduction. Then Geico tried to raise my rates. So I switched back to Progressive, who lowered me again.

I pay $1,179 for 1yr, full coverage. BUT, my deductible is very high. If it wasn't so high, I would probably pay $1500 per year?

I switched everything to National General in June, I went through Select Quote. I pay $4900 a year for my house and 5 cars. My 4Runner is $820 per year . Mine is higher because I have a 21 year old driver on my policy. My deductibles are $500 collision and $100 comprehensive.

I would recommend Traveler's Insurance. Very competitive rates.

I had Traveler's, great company but they kept raising my rates even though I had zero claims.

Kinda depends on your state too. Here in Washington we got tweakers driving around with no insurance and 4 year expired tabs. This is why rates keep increasing. The responsible ones get punished.

I had Travellers for a year also, then they tried to DOUBLE my rates. But I didn't move, didn't change vehicles and no accidents/moving violations. I dropped them and never looked back.

It's got to be a state thing. I came from GEICO because they did the same to me. Paying half what I was with GEICO currently. It pays to ship around definitely. If/when my insurance goes up I'll change too.

Because every other commercial during daytime tv starts off by saying “have you been hurt in an accident”. People straight up lying about claims. It also doesn’t help that over the past 3 years several million people have shown up with little to no training on how to drive and not willing to get insurances to cover their bad driving.

The same thing happened to me, a different insurance co.. When I went to the office to ask some questions, the agent said "your in a group plan". Apparently the rest of the group had a bunch of claims! Well a couple weeks later I went back to the office armed with 36 months worth of paper work showing that I had NO hard braking, overspeed, over idle time etc. I drove over the road semi at the time and have a CDL. The agent took some time to convince, but finally called the "carrier" of insurance co., and I ended up getting an "individual" policy for alot less. Still with that insurance guy today.

I pay $950 year for full coverage with a $2000 deductible. This is with Nationwide for a ‘24 ORP…… with multi vehicle and homeowners discount. I’m in the NY Hudson Valley.

It’s the homeowners insurance rates here that are driving me crazy. 300% increase in last 10 years.

    Yeah, agreed, wayyy too much!

    $1928 for 6 months with USAA for partner and I... '20 4Runner and '20 Tacoma. I don't drive but 6,000 miles a year, and partner, about 8,000.

Full coverage on both vehicles, including an umbrella policy.

Houston area has gotten RIDICULOUS due to the number of uninsured drivers.

    Cheers,

    Sean

$567/6 mo. through State Farm for my 2007 4R and our 2003 Acura. That's full coverage though. We're going to change that.

What I'm also interested in is claims experience. Inexpensive isn't worth the trouble if the claim service is awful. TLDR tip: Don't let the insurance company steer you to a shop because then you aren't the shop's customer - they are.

I had USAA for years until I got T-boned in 2002. Keep in mind that what I'm telling here was the tip of a very, very large iceberg on this claim. Their adjuster sent me to one of their preferred shops, saying he dealt with them all the time and they were great. Got the car back many weeks later and it looked like a high school shop project. The repairs were terrible. I called the guy and he said, "Well, I've never done business with them."

Then I discovered damage to the radiator crosspiece that they had missed. Only found it b/c the body shop omitted a PS hose clip so the hose rubbed against a belt until it wore through. When I called USAA, their adjuster went to my shop where they were replacing the crosspiece, looked at it, and told them I was a liar. He said I must have jumped a curb sometime after the accident and was trying to scam them into paying for it.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Fortunately, I took pics at the accident scene, including one of my car straddling a high curb where it ended up after the collision. I had also kept the busted crosspiece. I'm in Atlanta and worked for Delta at the time. Their regional office was in Tampa and when they kept stalling me, I told the guy I was flying down with my pics and the crosspiece and would wait in their lobby for as long as it took to see somebody and prove the damage occurred in the accident. He called back 10 minutes later and said they would cover it.

I dumped USAA and never looked back. Funny side note - a few weeks after I canceled, a rep called and asked if I minded sharing why. I said, "How much time do you have?" She encouraged me to tell her the whole story and when I finished 20 minutes later - seriously, telling it all took that long - she said, "Oh my, that's certainly not what we expect our customers to experience." Ya think? She was very apologetic but that ship had sailed. Haven't given them a dime in the 22 years since.
