Yes, I am guessing it's to indicate when getting smogged that it contains a CARB approved part being that it is aftermarket.

If they run the number they will know it is only certified up to a certain year. I think it was 2014 or 2016 when Toyota dropped the intake option.

I bought a cold air intake kit from Ebay for $100 experimenting. I used tube from it. It was cheap to try for a result. I bought a 4"id to 3.5" id coupler for box to tube, two 3.5"id to 3.5"id for 3" intake tube, 3.5"id to 3.25"id for the bigger 76mm or 3.5"id to 3" id for factory 70mm TB. I bought a cheap set of digital calipers off Mac truck 20 years ago and it removes all the guessing for mm or inches. My old eyes aren't calibrated as they used to be.

3" ebay kit left over. Cheaper than $200 plastic one. I will take pictures if cold air intake scoop installation conforms. I cut my tube a couple times trying different setups. It has to make the slight turn. Spectre makes a 45° coupler 3"to 3" for the turn if you need it. I bought ebay couplers for $5 each. With the filter I have about $150 in it. I bought Ebay cold air kit for my 2001 4Runner and it worked great. I had a $400 twenty years ago and it was just as good using factory box.

My 06 GTO failed due to a cracked cap on some vacuum source that’s not even used in the GTO platform but may be in something else.

I drove 100 miles with PC off today. Turned back on to try it and it's a little better on low end with PC. I drove 85-90 there and back. TB is responsive, but really comes in with more speed. If they hadn't created basketballs on front after rotation, it would have been pleasurable. Simple job, small amount of detail required.

You're using the stock paper filter? I thought about that as well, at least when I wash and clean the TRD filter so I don't have to wait around for it to dry.

Actually, I never used any oiled filter on my T4R’s. I’ve had oiled filters many years ago. MAF don’t really like any oil and dirt.
    Prefer not to run them.

Notice the paper filter is not the replacement thin one!

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if the TRD filter and like filters i.e. AFE are interchangeable? Is the stock airbox filter the same size as the TRD filter? and lastly is the TRD bottom airbox interchangeable with the OEM top? Thanks!

The stock replacement paper filter fits in the TRD box so technically you could get the AFE OEM replacement filter and run it with the TRD intake. The TRD bottom will most likely not work with the standard top because the mounting is different. The TRD upper box slots into the TRD lower box.

Do you know if I can install the TRD flow accelerator on the stock box? Thanks!

Not too sure but maybe since it's just a soft rubber insert.

None of this is going to be worth the effort.

Thanks! I can't seem to find out for sure but for 10 bucks and a dry flow filter I'll take the risk!
