New to me 21 ORP

New to the Toyota world, picking up a TCU 21 ORP with 82,000km next week. I live in Alberta, so I opted to add the comfort + system

The previous owner put black TRD Pro wheels on it.

Not sure what I'll do for mods yet, probably just morimotto headlights/tail lights and new tires for the time being.

is 275/70/17 the gold standard for upgrading tires on pro wheels? I read 285's will technically fit, but it's not recommended.

Since this vehicle is toyota certified, all fluids have been replaced. What is the recommended interval for spark plugs?

Nice looking rig! You don't have to go up in tire size. I didn't. It's all about the style/brand tire that you choose. A majority of the guys on this site have KO2's/KO3's or Falken Wildpeaks. Mine are Falken's. They have a very agressiive tread and I went with the OEM size.

But yes, you can go up to 285's. You'll have to do some minor fender trimming.

 

I was looking at Falken wildpeaks, that's likely what I'll go with. I'm assuming 275/70/17 would fit without rubbing?

Yes, the stock size is 265's. 275's should fit without any issues at all.

Tire fitment very much depends on offset. I am running 275s with a 0 offset, had to remove mudflaps, push the fender liner in a little bit with a heat gun and trim about an inch off the bottom of the wheel well on the front well, in front of the wheels. But it all was super minimal. 285s are going to rub, dont listen to people who say they wont, start to flex and lockout turning and you will rub.

 

Do you know what the offset is for trd pro wheels?
I'm not interested in running spacers, or a lift.

Just looking to get some beefier looking tires. Whatever the truck currently has on looks lame.

 

TRD Pro wheels have a +4 offset. You're right that the Pro wheel isn't recommended for 285's due to their 7" width but 1000's of people run them. Most 275's are E load and super heavy. Post up pics when you get your new tires!

I'm going to go with 275 falken wildpeaks, I'll be putting them on once I get the truck home.

 

Are you sure? I'd ask for a work order showing that was done.

 

Falken Wildpeaks in that size are one of the heaviest tires out there.

 

I saw the paperwork prior to purchasing, all the fluids were changed when it went through the shop.

With regards to wildpeaks being heavy, is there another recommendation? I need something that is snow rated.

Is having a heavy tire really detrimental?

Ko3 maybe?

 

I did the math before swapping my tires. The stock Dunlops vs Falken's, the weight difference was only a few pounds per tire. I think mine weigh 42lbs? Mine are C load. I don't need E loads.

It may have impacted my mpg's, because I went from street tires to off road tires, but I never noticed because I swapped mine out the same day I bought my truck.

New to 4Runners.com but wanted to post about the Wild Peak AT4/s. After doing extensive reading on will they rub or not I’m here to tell you that on a 2020 SR5P with Billstein shocks up front to level , the 275/70/17 Wild Peak AT4 will rub when wheel is turned all the way left or right. The rub comes from the front with mud flaps removed and slight fender trim. Still rubbing but again only on max’d out turn. LOVE the tires though and they look fantastic. Went from Nitto 265/70/17 Terra Grapplers to the Wild Peaks….

 

Thanks for the info, I was looking at those tires. I absolutely don't want to rub, so I'll probably stick with the oem size.

 

If I ran small spacers, would that alleviate the rubbing with 275 tires?

 

No, that would possibly make it rub more.
