whippersnapper02. The pedal commander doesn't bring problems in the future? like engine light?

 

I didn't have problems with one but it can be problematic. Besides, you can do the same it does simply using your foot.

Is this gap normal? I'm trying to find some clips to keep in place the lid. I don't know Toyota did a bad job with tis it doesn't close well.

 

Normal since it seals against the filter panel and the intake is made by K&N, not Toyota.

You do not have the rear hinge attached to the lower portion of the box.
Attach and the gap will definitely close!

EDIT! After looking again at your photo, maybe you have it attached and it is the filter holding it higher than the paper OEM one.

 

Even TRDs pictures shows a gap between the box halfs.

 

Yes, I agree.
Mine has a very slight gap between the upper and lower, showing the actual filter.
But not to the degree of @newguy4runnerTRpro photo shows. Also, I use the OEM air filter and not the pro filter or other aftermarket filters.
I never had any leak by issues with this setup.

 

No leaks here either but you can see the gasket with mine using a paper filter. I didn't think much of it since it is sealed.

This is the only pic I have of mine so I will have to get another later.

 

Ok I used the old 2 clips. and now is tight enough. !!!! thank you so much for the advice!!!!The gab still there. The filter is OEM Toyota oil filter reusable. It's not the paper. I saw other pictures online and It is a gab.

 

I have a similar gap. In the end I may ditch the intake and go for a HPS hose but I have to have an out of state friend order it.

 

A tube and filter is all you really need. That said, if I was paying $450 I would probably go with aFe Momentum GT intake. It's best design I have seen. The factory air box is cold air already. Increasing air velocity is about all you really do. I cut screen from top of factory box, K&N filter and cheap air tube. Works as good as any. Pulls my 33s like nothing now with throttle body upgrade.

 

Hey, stop hating on us Pro owners.

 

Never insulted the owners, just explained the reasoning of our choice. Many are ditching the pro exhaust and rack anyway. I would really like to have the dual climate controls on the pro but not worth the other issues and price to us. It is just a matter of needs and preference of the individual’s likes/dislikes.

 

Freedom of choice and speech, the way is should be, just like my explanation of our reasoning of our choice.

 

I wanted the dual climate control and remote connect. It's disappointing that Toyota only offers those on the two top trims. Both of our Rav4's have those options as did my Tacoma.

 

Since then I bought the Pro Bro exhaust and ripped it off in 3 weeks because it was too loud inside. When I posted it for sale on FB for $750 ($900 new), everyone that couldn’t afford it started crying but it sold for what I had asked anyway.

 

Many Pro owners trash the KDSS ORP and I don’t take offense. KDSS fits our needs as our 5th gen will never see anything other than fire/snowy roads as long as the 2nd gen and our SxS are running. My wife, myself and our dogs are seniors and don’t need nor want a lifted vehicle. We just like our 4Rs as-is for their dependability and versatility( …and my better half loves AG, I like the on-road handling).
I actually lowered my old 4wd Dodge Cummins, I took off the leveling kit and flipped the OEM 5/8” rear spring pack spacer to lower the rear to make it as easy as I could for entry and exit for us and our +10yr old dogs.

 

Yeah that exhaust sounds awful. I really like my Borla stainless touring exhaust. Cheaper than TRD exhaust, better sound and 1 million mile warranty. Listening to a Pro exhaust from the outside sounds like it would be bad on the inside of the cab. Mine has a rumble instead of angry bee in pop can like a Pro.I bought touring by accident, but glad I did.

 

We get it, you are not a fan. But some of us are. Get over it.

 

The duel climate control rocks, especially on longer trips with the wife. The stock Pro suspension works great on the road and shines on washboards roads on the way to camp sites. After reading all the negative comments about the Pro exhaust I thought there must be something to it, just completed 2,400 mile road trip that included several types of driving. Like the Pro exhaust sound about 99.9% of the time, won’t be wasting money changing it out.

Oh I would have one too. Nothing against them. I have the I want to buy in a few years parked at work every morning. That's used one I'm looking for. I really like my Limited AWD. More useful every day in all weather. Can't sling it out of a curve. If I had found a nice Trail is fine too. The less stuff, the more dependable. I like all 4runners. I didn't like being aggravated by some kid and his first 4runner. He acted like if you didn't have crawl, nobody had been there yet. I bought a sound system with a 4runner option added. I wouldn't have bought 3rd row or Xreas but took good and bad together. I thought I understood models and options more researching and reading. I still don't know a damn thing except trying. If they would go back to SR5 ORP, Limited, Pro as only models it would easier. Amazing how much they changed in 15 years.

 

That's what counts. You liking it. I just have experience from the exhaust tip end and one I heard I didn't like putting along. I can see the crawl knob being a lot easier. I just don't miss what I never had.

 

Here's a question from someone who has no fantasies about performance increases, but has considered this intake for a while simply because 1) I like the looks, and 2) most importantly - it does away with the resonator box, which makes getting to the injector wires on that side a big chore. Early on, a wire was chewed on an injector, then fixed. I treat the engine area with some spray, and haven't had another issue. However, I'd like to be able to monitor that side of the engine without having to take off the filter and resonator each time.

My question is this - you who've installed the TRD intake, do you feel the increased noise (if you can characterize it as noise) is simply due to removing the resonator?

Possible also that the tube size & configuration plays a part.

You can buy individual pieces online. Better intake tube and better flowing air filter does same thing. I cut screen from top of factory box and it made a slight difference. It will be more noisy. The factory box is better cold air than most aftermarkets. I like aFe Momentum GT design better than TRD intake. It draws cold pressurized air built up behind fender liner like every aftermarket intake will have to. Bigger, smoother, more direct air path and good filter will do same thing for less. Regular filter will control sound more than K&N. I use K&N air and cabin filter. I just don't oil the back side and I let oil drain off overnight. The TRD intake can be bought in individual pieces online. The only difference is smooth, more direct air path and MAF sensor is relocated to keep oil off it. I have never had these problems with mine. I sling excess oil from filter if I'm in a hurry. Rockauto had K&N on clearance for 4runner for $26 and I have a clean one always ready. I don't understand the problems others have with them. I like using Toyota accessories for fit and function. They are just pricey for pile of plastic. I want the AFe, but I know it will not be any better than what I have, just $450 of pretty plastic. I like the AFe because of the extra fresh air plumbing port in the box for their air duct kit and design for filter and tube. I still want worthless expensive crap I don't need.

 

What did you make the main tube out of on your cold air intake?
