So this isn't intended to be a steel vs. aluminum thread, just looking for opinions. On my 2013 I had steel sliders which my wife did not like as a step (they honestly weren't intended as such). For my 2023 she unfortunately really likes the Predator steps but those sit entirely too low and as everyone points out are "damage multipliers". While I do not do serious offroading, and I know my limits, I do tend towards a bunch of milder offroad trails, fire roads, etc. and was looking for more protection than those predator steps provide/negate. Greenlane offers both their hybrid sliders with bumpout as well as side steps/rocker guards. Yes they are both aluminum, but I'm more in the camp of just in case I end up on a trail where I'm like "well, crap". I'm really looking for owners who have these and can either vouch for a good foot step or not for the two models I've listed. From their site they both appear to have a decent footprint but figured I would ask here if anybody has first hand experience. Thanks.

I've had the Greenlane sliders with bump out and the rear deck for a couple of years now. I use them as a step to access my roof rack but not so much getting in and out of the vehicle, but I'm 6'1" so the step up is not big deal. My wife, who is 5'7", says that she doesn't use them all that often either because when she does she has to duck down to get into the vehicle. Otherwise, I love the sliders. they have taken some good hits from boulders and don't show much damage. I don't do heavy duty rock crawling so YMMV.

+1 for the Greenlane sliders. Well built and light, but not whimpy.

I've had the Greenlane sliders on my 4R about a year now. Quality build and installed easily. Use them as a step every time I get in and out of the rig, and I stand on them to access the roof. Expensive, but they do the intended job and I'd buy them again.

I have the bump out version I got used from this forum. I really like them, but they are not much of a step for the front driver/passenger. I did purchase stainless hardware for install. Wife and kids step on them regularly to get in vehicle and no complaints.

I have them on mine, with the bump out. My wife and two young daughters use them as steps to get in/out. I use them for roof access.

I have the full plate as well. Wait for a sale and they are a much better deal.

My ex had predator steps on her Tacoma and I hated them, step just wasn't where I would naturally use it. I have Greenlane sliders with full top plate and my gf uses them every time, I use them occasionally, my pup uses them to get in the back seat.

I am leaning toward aluminum skids too. My goal is to not be in a position where I am relying on them, they are a "just in case" measure.

100% recommend their bump-out sliders with the full plate and they do great as a step for my parents when they're in town. Mine were 50lbs raw and they've done well holding up to a more touring style trail build paired with their aluminum skids. It all added less than 100lbs to the truck and the protection is good.

Just remember they're Canadian so add duty fees. Mine were like $95 for sliders and skids.

Thanks for all the replies, pretty much confirms my decision to go with bump out and full top plate.

I have had them 1 year and like them very much. If I were to do it again I wouldn't get the 12.5 degree angle, but just the flat would be my preference. The angled version makes for a poor step when accessing roof, racks, carwash, etc. The driver's side was a minor struggle to install with KDSS, but still doable as a 1 person job.

It's more of a FedEx is gonna send you a bill heads-up. Honestly, with the exchange rate, the price was comparable to steel from a lot of shops when I bought them so highly recommend when you can get them on sale.

Agreed. Got mine on sale so the customs charges were a wash.
