Since the readers of this thread are interested in upgrading our stock bumpers I will share my discovery of this cool concept. It can be useful off and on road.
I personally do not like the idea of welding on my frame, but a good fabricator could design bolt on brackets using existing frame holes.

If I understand Trailspecial22 question, my reasoning is the missing "crush cans" will let more collision impact energy transfer to the entire vehicle including occupants? It seems logical Toyota placed the crush cans in bumpers for a reason. I would rather my 4runner absorb the forces of a wreck than my body.
New auto engineering with multiple air bags and crushable metal work is a lifesaver for many crash victims.
    Just my 2 cents.

understood. For me personally, I’d rather have some steel up front for any low/mid speed fender benders plus protection from animals strikes. My area has so many a-hole drivers and deer so I chose that route of getting a plate bumper.

StoneyRanger and ThatBassguy knows what Im talking about. their 4rnr would have been obliterated by the deer he hit at 55+ without one.

No updates. I only just got Betty White in August. I imagine I won't start until next summer...I hope anyways.

Yeah, I do realize what they're for, but come on...how scared would you be coming toward an armoured rig? If I was the other person...I'd swerve to hit a tree before a rig surrounded in armour. :muscleflexing::muscleflexing:

Just hit a small doe about a 100’ from turning into my driveway at about 20-25 mph. Hit her square in the middle of the plate bumper and pushed her into the ditch. She took off and only left me with a bunch if hair on the shackles. No damage!
