Tied selling or forced buying is actually against anti trust laws in the US. Even before the CARS addendums are pushed through to just reinforce it. They can't say "we put it on there , so if you want this you have to buy that."

So that's why they add all those "port add ons", just hoping you didn't know that.

Great info! Thanks for the link!! How would one enforce anti trust laws at a dealership? If I refuse paying $1000 for 4 oil changes and $1500 for ceramic coating I would think the dealer would just refuse to make the sale. Or they take back the discount that they offered. Or should we as a forum collectively sue Toyota under a class action suit? I'm sure this happens to most of us.

I mean to enforce a law, you'll have to be willing to tell them you're coming back with a lawyer and walk out. And FYI the Attorney General is a lawyer, so a complaint to them would spark investigation. But yes, the ceramic coating and and oil changes are tied selling. If you internet dive enough you'll find what people have done with these laws, it's just as far as you're willing to go.
Some people are not in a metropolitan area and only have one choice to deal with and can't just go to a different stealership if one gets stupid.

You tell them that you don’t pay in advance for oil changes and you didn’t order ceramic coating. Tell them to take it off. They applied on their own risk. It’s not on the original window sticker. I’ve done it every time I leased a vehicle.

I paid 47,900 for an ORP with no crazy add ons. It was 2700 off asking price. I love this thing! It was built in July so I guess it was one of the last ones made. I decided to get the 4Runner a little too late and got lucky. Someone had a claim on this but decided to buy a pro instead so I jumped on it.

Fair enough here is mine I had posted a clipped out part thinking it was what mattered.

2024 ORP with sunroof 49408 msrp

1498 is 4 oil changes, running boards, door seal protection plastics and inside the door handles, tint, floor mats and wheel locks. overall, I would have paid probably close to 800-1000 bucks since it was going to get done anyway.

trade was a 2017 GLI Autobahn automatic with 63k. They gave 11,500 got it independently appraised by the whole seller at the dealership I worked at and said the money there was right. 12k would had been max from him but I would lose the tax savings. Payoff was 3500.

so I saved 4800 they got me for 1500 so really I got 3500 off.

PS: I dealt with a black oncoming unit, if I had been whiling to leave that day with a white one (they had 3 white ones that’s it), they claim they would have let me have the car for 44700 with everything on it.

Hopes this makes sense im going on 13 hours at work waiting for the last deal to go through so i can go home

Purchased a Black 2024 Limited from Del Toyota just outside the Philadelphia area back in April. I got the deal through a well known east coast broker operating on the leasehackr.com site. The only optional equipment included on my limited were the wheel locks and all-weather floormats/cargo tray. I really wanted a Silver exterior, but the dealership only had limiteds in Red, Black, Blue, or White. I'm glad I purchased earlier this year. I think I did pretty good. I'm loving the vehicle more than I thought I would.

    Sticker Price was 52,672

    Vehicle selling price: 46,553
    Broker fee: 1,000
    Total selling price: 47,553

    additional costs:
    6% MD tax - 2821.02
    TTL/Doc Fee - $999.05
    Grand total: $51,373.07 OTD.

Was it Ed Morse or Earl Steward Toyota? They have some crazy add ons. I saw a 2024 SR5 in the Delray showroom for $58k!!! They added a 2” lift, TRD wheels with KO2 tires and moved the spare tire from underneath to the back of the truck. That’s how they justify the price.

here you go, takes $90,000 pre-income tax dollars in Canada to get an SR5. The only discount you’ll notice is that there is no dealer fee, normally $1,000 but we’ve bought from this dealer for decades including my dads Toyotas back until the 80’s so that’s why we get that “discount” along with service credit and one free accessory.

I live 1-2 miles away from Ed Morse, started to work the deal there but got the rig from West AutoNation.

the 58k model showroom model is the bullshit they love to have waiting there for people to just see and pay full pop.

AutoNation originally wanted 3k for all those options plus Zillow “paint and interior” protection which is complete garbage. So that’s why I paid 1498 for the options added.

Luckily it didn’t qualify for the luxury tax, but I still pay carbon tax on all the fuel annd everything that was transported really… and sales tax on the carbon tax. Then there’s the 40% combined income tax bracket I’m in. There’s a lot more taxes I’ve forgotten but generally for every dollar Canadians earn you end up paying about $0.60 cents in taxes.

All that and everything’s falling apart lol can’t get doctors, can’t get specialists, can’t fix roads, sewers, bridges, or any infrastructure. Can’t buy houses in a lot of cities unless you’re essentially a millionaire or commit mortgage fraud (which is rampant) and smaller towns outside the big cities are less expensive although not cheap, but then you pay much higher fuel, transportation, and services cost.

it’s honestly a shit country from what it was even for someone young like me growing up. I know Canadians will argue it’s better than a lot of other countries but we shouldn’t set the bar to third world standards and then be happy we’re above it and have no right to complain.

oh well, we have a house and 2 new vehicles. Hopefully soon I can complete my plan to build a stone “church” (not registered, more of a cultural community centre) and start housing my fellow struggling Europeans there.

I just checked my paperwork and don't see any mention of Toyota Care (2 years / 4 oil changes). I suspect it's built-in somewhere. Only thing I regret was not insisting I don't need it because I don't plan on using it.
Oh well, 1st brand new vehicle purchase and glad it's a 5th gen.

What’s strange is my window sticker says I have toyoguard plat but it’s 2 years or 25k… the paperwork I have says toyoguard platinum is 3-4 years or 45k miles

I went down a rabbit hole since the 1st day of the month is always a little slower.

They tried to charge me 699 originally for paint protection which came from the 699 I paid South East Toyota (JM&A Group based out of Deerfield Florida 15 minutes from where I live)

Which is wild to me, it’s like having Toyota have 2 middle men, one is SET and the other being whatever we have as local dealers… I don’t understand how they get away with that…

I attached the original price quote pre negotiation

SETF is a criminal organization. Toyota tried to get rid of them so many times but they have a contract. They only charge this $699 for 2 oil changes in the south region which is their territory. If you buy and finance with Toyota Financial Services these are not on your window sticker.

$48K end of July before California sales tax and license for a 2024 SR5 4x4 Premium, softex, moon roof, and third row. Includes a couple of silly Port add ons from Toyota which I would have gladly forgone if given the chance, such as the $715 running boards and $185 roof rack cross bars. Both of which were promptly removed. The $199 dual usb power port and cables wasn't bad, but the price seems silly. Of course we can't forget the $309 all weather floor and cargo liners.

Not complaining, other wise it was exactly what I wanted in white, with the sand color softex fake leather, moon roof, and third row seating. Was below MSRP with the options.

Bought in MD, drove it back to CA as there were only 5 SR5 4x4 Premiums configured as such in the US at the time, all on the east coast, and the price was still slightly less than ordering and waiting for one. All of the other inventory was either cloth, or the black and grey softex. Spent a couple of weeks, and made a vacation out of the trip back visiting friends and family.

Replacing a 1999 Land Rover Discovery II I've owned for over two decades and well kitted out for the trail. Frankly, a grand two either way wasn't a deal breaker, I wanted one configured exactly like this that I could build up, and have the 4.0 6 cylinder. Didn't want to be forced into buying a 2025 4 cylinder turbo 6th gen. Maybe they will be just as reliable as the outgoing 6 cylinder..... but wasn't looking to find out as it will be my weekend rig for another decade or two.

Added my Thule rack, a basket for it, rear ladder, and awning. Installing Bilstein 5100's on it with rear helper bag in rear, put some BFG KO2 or KO3 C rated AT's on it and call it good for now. Level, but not lift it, and keep the stock size tires unlike the Land Rover. May mount my winch down the road, but that will require more suspension work up front and think I am just going to enjoy it as is for a while, not worrying about having to wrench on it like the Land Rover.

Paid $48,800. Paid Jim(broker) from leasehackr a $1000 to locate the vehicle. He is worth the money on Toyota's that are in high demand. The dealership honored the price and I was in and out in 25 minutes. All other dealershipsIMG_5513.jpg near me either did not have any, had their inventory pre-sold or were marking up $1000s over sticker.

2024 ORP out the door at sticker price $51,948 + doc fees but I got to spec it while it was at Port with exactly what I wanted and nothing I didn't. I miss the good old days of walking into a Toyota dealer and buying a vehicle at invoice price.

Edit to say this was at the end of April and in San Antonio, Texas at North Park Toyota. I was very satisfied with the way they handled the sale. Did everything from home before it was delivered. Drove over and everything was exactly what I was promised. And no hard sale on warranty or anything else. Trade in was fair and no problems.
