    2024 4R Average MPG

Doing a road trip from Delray Beach FL to Charleston SC, 1st stop was Savannah. ACC between 75 and 80 the entire drive short of a couple bad weather and construction spots.

Trip started with 1200 miles on the ODO.

Saw my MPG be has high as 20mpg, with 1 gas stop when I was at half tank to refill. By the time we got to our destination we had averaged 19.4 mpg.

Which big picture, not too too bad.

Car is 100% stock with tires nice and warmed up they are between 33psi and 35psi, OEM Bridgestone Dueler HT.

Is it just me though and the car just kinda wanders on the highway, I feel like I’m swerving in my lane too much? Or other car is Model 3 with all self drive and my god, in terms of relaxing long drive, it’s a lot easier.

PS: Buc-cee’s almost blew a sunroof in the back of my head what a crazy place.

Nice truck. Your mileage is pretty much spot on with what I get with my 23 Pro. I check mine once in awhile just to see what I get, I filled up yesterday and it checked in at 19.2 mixed in town and highway. As far as the driving, it's a truck, not a car, you will get used to it. And in 4 or 5 years your 4RUNNER is going to be worth way more than your tesla and won't need expensive replacement parts like batteries.

Oh yeah, listen the Tesla model 3 has its place in the world as probably the best daily commuter you can get (as long as you can charge relatively easily) my fiancé and I had it living in an apartment with a charger 5 minutes away. She drive 35k a year with a 100 mile round trip daily commute.

now we have a small garage in our townhome and you can’t beat that. We got the 4Runner as our “get shit done” vehicle.

    Nice ride you have there.

When I took my 4R on a family road trip I was surprised and pleased to get higher than the rated mileage.

    Does your ORP have KDSS?

I found mine rode harsh and wandered slightly on the stock Bridgestone's. I recently upgraded to Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek's in 285/70R17 and it rides much nicer now. The only downside was I went from 18.5 MPG to 15 MPG! :spending:

This is misleading.. unless you're driving to lower elevation
I can get 50+ mpg going from Tahoe to the foothills

24 ORP here as well, I feel like I am a drunk driver with the highway wondering. Since you still have the stock tires take it to the dealership and request your free alignment. I was denied this due to having them put on Falkens (275's C load).

I am getting 17.5-18mpg average with the one size up tires- for comparable purposes (elevation ~2600ft, 87 octane).

Nope this is a round trip from Denver to Glenwood springs. Net elevation change is essentially zero.

When I run a tank through mine and it's all highway miles, I get a consistent 21.4 mpg. I'm just fine with that. That's two passengers, and a small amount of luggage.

When I mix highway and around town, it's between 18 and 18.5. Mine is an SR5, 2023 with stock wheels and tires (Grantrek AT's).

Of course a road trip will always have better mpg because its mostly highway and everything is warmed up for extended run times.

I average ~21.5 mpg for my typical daily use. Commuting mostly highway.

My 4R is mechanically completely stock.

Yep. I guess my point is that it's refreshing to actually get better mileage than the usually-optimistic EPA estimate. :)

Agreed and that is my point as well. I know 4R folk are like "you don't buy a 4Runner for the gas mileage" and I didn't. I expected 19mpg at best and was surprised to get more than that.

I am still curious if the OP has kdss, in regards to the highway wandering.

My 2021 gets about this on the highway, but my average is only about 17.

Check your tires and pressure. We had a ‘17 Pro and currently have a ‘23 pro. The “upgrade” grapplers suck shit. Put on coopers and defenders and at appropriate pressures track straight and no more of the floaty wandering.

I'm in the 285/70r17 rugged trek 15mpg club too! I'm SL/P load but that didn't seem to help (weight).

As far as the wondering about wandering, I see OP doesn't have KDSS so I would say that's normal at highway speeds with a little cross wind. It's why after my test drives I chose KDSS, even knowing the possible reliability issues (can be mitigated with regular cleanings)

Think they are asking in relation to the wandering on the highway. KDSS is sway bars that affect the stiffness of the chassis.

Lmao it’s all good, I moved here when I was 15. You won’t believe but I’m still missing some of the finer details of the English language. But also these stupid phones, I don’t understand how with ai technology built in, we cannot have a fully perfect predictive auto correct.

I would love nothing more than to run that set up too but yeah. I think I’ll stick with P factory sized tires. I think the Toyo AT3 weight 39 pounds per tire per their website.

If you read the OPs post he asks about wandering on the highway. KDSS is a relevant question.

Plus, no thread would be complete without bringing up KDSS lol. :)
