Not planning to put a lift on my 24 ORP. Stock tires are 265/70/17. I was told the largest I could put on where 275/70/17. They are only a fraction bigger. I’m going to upgrade to another all terrain tire like a BF Goodrich, K02. Any benefit to getting the larger size or just stick with the stock size? Any suggestions appreciated.

No real benefit going larger, unless you need the extra .4" in width, which I would doubt.

Stock size gets better mileage and doesn't suck the power as much as a larger tire.

A stock size in a pattern that matches the terrain is probably the way to go.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Question for you: (and be totally honest) Do you actually need bigger tires and the clearance? I mean, do you wheel that hard and that much, or do you just want to to look cool?

If you just wanna flex on your neighbors and other 4Runner owners, get an aggressive looking tire in the stock size. That's what I did. I'm the coolest kid in the grocery store parking lot!

Only do light offloading through fields and good dirt roads. Driving in once in a while to pick up a deer or put out a tree stand.

The 4Runner can drive on dirt roads/fields with stock-street tires. You'll be fine.

How are those stock tires in snow, pretty good?

I have no idea. I live in North Texas. We don't get any snow. But we do get sleet/ice in February.

@Mark4556 If you update your profile location you might get more specific and helpful responses. A question about snow for example might have different answers depending on what kind and how much, which can be location-specific.

The stock tires are not good in snow, but a recommendation would depend on what you mean by "snow" (which could be interpreted through location).

285/70R17's with no lift. Removed from mid flaps and some minor trimming on the fender flare where it comes down into the wheel well.

I'd opt for something other than stock, probably something like a BFG AT. They'll do better in the snow than the stock tires, and do better on dirt roads when there isn't any snow.

Can confirm, your Dunlops will get you there and back. There are better options for snow and ice, but they were fine last winter after 10k miles.

After living with lifted jeeps, leveled trucks, and all of the BS that comes with it - I'm keeping my stock size tires on my PRO. I'm upgrading a bunch of stuff, but the stock size tires (upgraded to Duratracs) will get me anywhere I am realistically looking to go. It's a multi-hour ride to get to any good offroad areas, and I much rather enjoy stock fuel economy driving the N.Maine Woods than the once a year I might find myself seriously offroad.

I too am happy with stock size. My Duellers wore funny caused by stupidly letting dealer do alignment. Had my fav tire shop properly reset alignment, but lots of rubber got scuffed off.
Next I got a set of Grandtrek takeoffs near new for $200.
Now I am driving on Pirelli Scorpion AT+.
Different road feel-quiet & smooth. Happy so far.

Thanks. My fuel economy dropped much more than I expected it to. Went from averaging 16mpg to 11-13mpg.

Ouch, I don't pay much attention to my mpg's except when my wife asks me and brags about her Rav4 Hybrid Limited getting 43 mpg's. I was thinking about going with bigger tires, but now I'm going to have to reconsider.

i go by the notion that we dont buy these cars for mpgs, we buy then because they look good, last a god damn long time and are, imo, easy to work on and mod
