Can you lower rear hatch with rear window down?

This may sound dumb but I don’t want to create a problem. Is the rear window, in the down position, supported such that closing (it requires some speed to get it to latch) it won’t jar the window and jump it out of its support tracks? I assume it’s fine. But you guys that have taken the rear apart to find a leak, have seen how it’s put together inside. I don’t use my rear window much but did this week to carry something long. Just wondering. Thanks.

 

I'm confused by your statement. Do you mean: Can I OPEN (or close) my rear hatch/tail gate when the window is down? If so, the answer is yes, you can. I've done it before, this morning in fact. I wouldn't slam it shut though. Like you mentioned, the glass is now in the hatch and you don't want to damage it.

 

Yes, that is my question. The owners manual has some operating limits discussed. Like you can’t open the window if hatch not closed, but you can close it (from inside). And the wiper will stop if window opened while wiper is on. My concern is the support when open is not as good as with the perimeter support and weatherstripping is when closed. I agree though, just be gentle

Actually, you can open the window when the hatch is open using the key. Not sure about newer models with the push buttons on the hatch. Using the window control on the console, you cannot open the rear window when the hatch is open.

 

It's really not though. The rear window is huge and much looser of a fit in that when you close the hatch with the window open it rattles.. a lot. I assume that's the reason behind OP's question.

OP: When I had a 5th G I closed the hatch a million times with the window open mainly because I almost always left that window open. I would try to softly close it just to lessen the chance of an issue, and I never had an issue.
