    Hi all,

I recently traded my 2017 tacoma in for a 4unner pro with non JBL. I had read many threads regarding the Subaru impreza dash speakers working direct plug and play for the Tacoma, but have never seen anything about it working for a 4runner. After looking at many pics of the subaru kicker dash speakers, I decided to give it a shot.. and low and behold, it works! Please see the attached pics, it is literally plug and play, mounts in the exact same holes, and takes less than 5 minutes to change over!

    Cheers

I believe the part number for the tweeters is
H631SFJ101 and you can find them on Amazon and a few other retailers online for under $100 for the pair

Yes! Was just wondering about this yesterday. Will buy soon, stock speakers are the only complaint I have with the 4Runner

    Sbcam,
You didn’t mention one small item: is the sound any better/worth the $$ ?

    Thanks...

Anybody tried this on a JBL system? Is it even necessary? I searched and did not find anyone that had done this. Thanks in advance.

I had the JBL on my 17’ Tacoma and these were not plug and play, not sure on the 4R but I doubt it would work.

Yes should work in general. I’m not sure on JBL models though

I might try this, but I guess I don't really understand how replacing a full range speaker with a tweeter (the dash speakers are full range as far as I know) can be an improvement?

I had a 2016 Taco that I made this change on. I recognized a noticeable difference but it isn't equivalent to changing doors out. BUUUUUT For $80 or so it provides great value.

Also, @Mass4runner, I know that the Tacos did not have full range and from my research these tweets in the T4R are not either. Could be wrong or contingent upon JBl/Non JBL but from my understanding the Non JBL units are dedicated tweeters.

Hmmm, I was sure the dash speakers in the 4R were full range. Do you remember where your read that they were just tweeters?

No I don't but I've pulled them out and the magnet on the back is small AF. If these are full range then it is a joke of a full range.

Go the full range route. I did it with JL Audio 3.5 coaxial speakers. Sounds great.

See https://www.4runners.com/threads/diy-3-5-jl-audio-dash-speaker-upgrade-wow.7466/ for lots of details and pics.

I just did this mod and I had to drill the holes out a little bigger as they didn’t align.

It wasn’t a big deal I just ran a slightly bigger drill bit though the hole.

Thanks for posting this, 10 minute install with improved sound quality. Fits perfectly in 2019 4runner.
