Cartrimhome Skid Plate Problem

I am not a mechanic. I did however get all of the wrenches, bits, etc that I needed to handle this job. Other people are saying how easy this was and my special self is having problems.

For those who have installed it, the front ones have washers and unfortunately when I try to pre-set the items from the manufacturer it all falls through. I notice that my old OEM skid plate comes with a lock washer but the cth ones do not.

Any tricks or am I better served getting something different from Lowes?

 

Never heard of Cartrimhome. Do they have any tech support? Pictures might help us help you. Other than that, have a friend help and use a lot of patience.

It is still budget quality Chinese stuff so keep your expectations accordingly for fit and finish.

Wow. I thought anyone who'd spent any time here would've heard plenty of CTH scuttlebutt...

 

If one wants an aluminum skid that looks just like the oem TRD skid, while having an access panel for the oil filter (which the oem TRD skid doesn't), the CTH skid isn't bad for the price. I had one for a short while, but replaced it with an RCI skid, but had no issues installing it when I got it.

 

Fair enough. Again, I'll stick with US made products. That's exactly why I went with RCI in the first place.

 

The skid plate is not bad. For vanity sake I wanted a skid plate that matched the color of the car. I did re-use the back bolts from the OEM skid to the new one...I'll order a complete set and see if that works better.

I am definitely an OEM guy but unfortunately Toyota doesn't sell a skid plate in black.

 

I actually needed to contact them on purchase on address information that was incorrect--they were helpful. I'll do this thank you. I've seen his - and other videos - on youtube prior to this. I honestly need a hydraulic lift and jack stand to give myself some more room.

 

I ended up ordering some OEM screws. Cake after that. Thanks everyone!

However you want to spin it. Unfortunately we have U.S. companies that outsource manufacturing to China. With proper oversight, I do think there is a difference in quality.

 

I have the same skid plate, I just attached the front two bolts first then, let the skid plate hang down while i slipped the bolts up thru the pacers, kind of a pain in the ass, but easy enough to do. Only difference between the CTH and stock is stock is welded while CTH is stamped, same thickness aluminum otherwise.

 

Love my CTH plate. Can't believe Toyota didn't make a service plate for theirs. It works great with the C4 skids too

 

^Aluminum is already a big compromise on durability for skid plates. Adding an access door further weakens it. Though I suppose it's fine on a pavement queen (like mine) for deflecting the odd road debris...

 

Yep I went in totally knowing that the utility of this skid plate is a technical downgrade but the functionality and aesthetics are an upgrade. And will be primarily a pavement princess.

 

yeah it was enough pita that I got the oem screws. kingsev has the video where he measures both and the cth plate is a little smaller. 0.29 vs 0.21 but don’t quote me.

 

Same country Boeing sources its aluminum from. They have papers pulled from the toilet roll certifying the material meets requirements.

^Now try to figure out which part of that statement is true, and which part is satire.

 

Installed my CTH skid with all the provided bolts, spacers, and clear washers. No issues. Looks damn awesome in black with red letters, and removable oil change access.
