Hello everyone, The Taco Garage has been selling Tacoma dash mounts for a while but we now have a 5th gen 4runner Dashtop-Multi-Mount as well.
The DMM is a nearly invisible platform for attaching 1" ball mounts to your dash. The 1" balls, as you all probably know, are a very universal method for mounting basically anything, but you can't usually use them without adding some bulky in-your-face type of mount, like this...
    https://expeditionessentials.com/products/toyota-4-runner-5th-gen-powered-accessory-mount-pre-order
Now, that may be a great mount but I'm not personally a fan of how that huge thing looks on top of the dash. Nor am I a fan of the $170 price tag. Our mount starts at just $65!
I wanted to make something that would leave the dash looking mostly stock, so after a bunch of versions of this we finally landed on something that is very solid and is basically invisible until you actually start mounting accessories to it.

Have had mine since Jan. 2024. Does what it's 'sposed to do without the clutter of a shelf style mount. The backing plate was used as a template and the install was very straight forward. Took me 45 mins. on a 25º day. It has held up very well on some technical and bouncy trails. Phone and radio stay where they belong without over-tightening the thumb screws. I have no regrets and recommend the DMM 100%.

Man. Wish this was available when I did the LabOps Gear version. That one works, but it's a bit light duty in comparison. The balls come loose constantly and I'm too afraid to thread them in any further. This dealio looks much sturdier. I would actually purchase this if I hadn't given away the OEM shelf thing.

I just now checked if the dillies may have come loose. I had never checked them before. Still as tight as the day I installed them.

I have no doubt. If Toyota sold that piece separately, I'd be all over this. Off to eBay to find the unfindable.

Agree. I had a hard time mounting this one...some drilling involved too. Anyway, seems like the OP has created a nice product.

Junkyard or eBay is best bet. I gave my original to a buddy to replace his missing one. He said Toyota only sold the entire trim piece. Oh well.

Could the dash piece be 3D printed?

For those that have it installed, i see the mighty mounts use the metal plate system that would block wireless charging ( Qi or Magsafe) when you put the metal plate on your phone or case. So, does the mounting ball fit most phone mounts if i just get a magsafe mount from somewhere else and attach that to the mounting ball?

I got this with the 1" ball mount which fits my size B RAM mount perfectly. They do also offer different mount adapters for different sizes.

Technically, yes, all it takes is a good scanner and printer.
I thought about making the whole piece out of billet but i already had the design and it would have been significantly more expensive because of the added material and the added detail, machining it would take longer.

we use 1" (25mm) ball mounts so any other brand that uses the same size ball mounts will be compatible, the balls that attach directly to the DMM do have to be ours though, I don't think I've seen anyone else make ball mounts with 10-32 threads

This is seriously an issue and this should have been specified ahead of time. There was no mention of the thread pitch and no mention that you are basically the only source of ball mounts. I just went to install this tonight and had I known two weeks ago you use a pitch nobody else uses, I would never have ordered the mount.

1/4-20 is everywhere and there is no reason you couldn't make that work for the screw holes up front.

And to make this even more fun, you cannot buy an OE replacement part to go back to stock. It's part of the radio surround, and by radio surround, I mean it's part of what only comes with the $3,500 radio. So there's that too.

Got my today and installed. Install was pretty easy after watching YT vid. 30 mins removal to done. I had to go back and find time the clip positions after taking the pic. But only a couple mins there.

Just some tips. The silver bolts for the front wait until installed or you'll hit the plastic underneath on the air vent and won't slide in. Amd magnetic screw drivers for those tiny ass screws that deserve to be in hell cuz they drop every where.

You're NOT wrong... ALL valid points...

I added the 10-32 thread pitch to the description, I had it in the ball mount description but not in the DMM page, my bad, I do apologize for that, it's fixed now. As far as us being the only provider, I'm not 100% sure about it but if we are... hear me out... there is what I believe to be a good reason behind that.
When I first started making the tacoma DMM, I had to make a choice about the screw size I was going to use and 10-32 although not as mainstream was better for the application, I chose not to settle for 1/4-20 just based on availability, 10-32 threads meant that I could have more threads on a thinner part without compromising strength. Also, smaller overall holes means you have more design flexibility and when designing a system like this where you don't want a huge bulky in-your-face type of mount, space constraints matter. It would have been much easier for me to use 1/4-20, instead I chose to design develop and source a ball mount that would work with a single screw, no diamonds or huge square bases. I knew this could make some people think the way you do, I would have been skeptical of someone using a "proprietary ball" when so many are available, but remember, I'm not charging you $50 per ball, I'm including one in the mount and an extra is only about 10 bucks, I promise I'm not getting rich off these ball mounts (ask my wife... or credit cards) besides, would you have bought a cheaper one that was 1/4-20? would you have been happy when the screw came loose after taking one hard turn or vibrated out while off-roading? 10-32 threads are superior for this application and I stand by that, I will take back the mount if that bugs you, that's not a problem, and about that part that you already drilled... I'm sorry I can't do much about getting it back to stock, but I did think about that, and thats part of the beauty of this mount, it is basically invisible, even with the plates installed, so if removed yeah you'll know the holes are there and I can see how that would bug some people but I'm not forcing this on anyone and most people who are installing these will probably have other more permanent and visible modifications.
Again, sorry that wasn't any clearer before and I hope you otherwise enjoy the mount.

I do appreciate the response and I will say the mount does work well. I ended up punching out two of the insert nuts and running a 1/4-20 screw from the bottom to use some RAM balls I had on hand. It's a surprisingly sturdy mount so can't knock it for that at all - I just like common threads that if for some reason I need to source a replacement, I can get them anywhere.

    quick note here...
I think you may have installed your top plate upsidedown, that edge that seems to lift up in the front is supposed to follow the curve (down) of the plastic underneath it.
