I just thought the porkchop so the dog comment, from someone with that profile pic was ironic, that's all.

Yes, one of my favorite Mazda colors. Absolutely pops in the sun. I was hoping for a regular medium red option though like Barcelona Red. But maybe too close to Solar Octane?

Solar Octane looks almost pink in the sun. I’m not a fan at all.

And when it fades in a few years, going to look matte pink.

They won't show it until closer to on sale date probably, likely because it won't be exciting. It'll probably look like a whale with proportionally small highway tires. Tacoma SR5 for comparison:

    upload_2024-9-19_21-39-42.png

The OR looks to have the non-premium pkg interior which will probably be similar to the SR5, with manual seats and small screen (with big bezel) like the Tacoma SR5:

    Tacoma SR5 interior.

I wonder if the 4R SR5 will get a cheap gauge cluster like the Tacoma SR5. There is a small screen in the middle for speedo and tach. The remaining real estate on each side is populated by gratuitously large coolant temp and fuel level bar graphs.

That looks so cheap for such an expensive vehicle.

$38,500 is lowest SR5 price I could find for Tacoma. That cluster looks about right for that price, these days. imho.

^ *1992 :p And back then only high end vehicles like the C4 Corvette had them.

The side screens appear to be configurable (I've seen pictures where they show dial gauges instead of bar graphs).

And leave you with something frustrating too. Like the WiFi working randomly or remote start that turns off when you open the door

    lol what a POS.
Shit like this is fine and embraced in the 70 series Land Cruiser. Not in this bulky American designed bulky truck that is suppose to be high tech and modern

Haven't experienced the WiFi issue but yeah shutting off when opening the door is dumb. I mean if you have the key fob W/in 3-6' shouldn't but I guess that would add to the cost of the software:rolleyes:o_O

The 70 series Land Cruiser for 2024 still has two large mechanical gauges and gained a small screen. Similar tech level as the 5th gen 4Runner:

    upload_2024-9-20_22-26-15.png

Not sure what made you think the 4th gen Taco was American designed. The styling is distinctly Japanese:

The bulk comes from the truck being forced to share the full-size TNGA-F platform, which was designed in Japan and debuted first on the Land Cruiser 300 station wagon.

This is awful. Why not use analog dials in such case?

I’d prefer analog dials over most of the digital gauges I’ve seen in cars lately. I really hate the gas gauges with the bars.

The small screens may actually be less expensive than physical dials. I noticed this trend building race cars 20 years ago where a single AiM display (that could additionally log data) was slightly cheaper than the three physical dial gauges it replaced. The screens have only gotten better and cheaper since.

At the next mid-cycle refresh, prices on the larger screen may come down enough for Toyota to put it in all trims.

I prefer physical gauges, or more specifically I prefer night visibility of backlit physical gauges and dislike inevitable clutter that digital screen bring with them.

That base gauge cluster looks like it was designed to shame its owner for not paying more into a higher trim.

Then again, feels like we’ve seen it somewhere before…

The interesting thing about styling is that some will always love it, some will always like it and some will always hate it.

Buy what you like and hopefully you end up liking what you buy.
I still love my 2020 4R and yet I will always wish it had been slightly different.
Let's see - an 8 speed trans, 50 more hp, 20 mpg when towing my 5x8 off-road trailer, but it doesn't. That is just how it goes.

Yet I love my 4R and it takes me everywhere I want to go and it has been maintenance free.

There is no perfect vehicle and there will never be 100% agreement on opinions of style or functionality.

If you ask me if I like the new 4R - the truth is my opinion doesn't matter to you, it only matters to me. And your likes and dislikes only matter to you.

Buy what you like and don't concern yourself with what others think.

That’s probably the real reason why Toyota went with these gauges, to save money. It would be nice if they passed some of that savings on to the customer. :(

I’m willing to bet the Sr5 will have exactly this. They are cheaper than a dial gauge, and probably significantly so once you buy the same screens that can be used across models. I hate these screens, they’re going to probably be to bright even when turned all the way down, because even the black area of these cheap screens give off light due to the backlighting.

I had high hopes for the TRD Off Road but I am disappointed. Looks fat and bloated.
