The best place I found were on my 2 previous FJ's. In dash in frt of driver was a button to release a pop up little "door" IF you didn't have the Nav system(I didn't, that's where the screen would appear) my Skyy 9mm fit nicely in there.

 

You could put it back where OEM jack is stored Just a suggestion.

I have one of these cabled to the seat frame . Slides under the seat and it and the included cable are very stout.
The one shown is a large . Around 32 bucks .

 

Do those lock? I don’t currently carry, but have wondered what would cover me when traveling thru restrictive states.

Yes . In the pic you can see a key in the lock . It’s for securing the gun in your car when traveling or when you’re not in it .
It’s not for lighting fast access to quickly engage in a gun fight .
Also excellent for flying . You can lock and cable your gun inside your checked baggage .

I wonder if a SEAL is familiar with combatant, or criminal, behaviour, and whether they know the difference, when they make comments like this. Our law enforcement agencies continue to recruit combatants; although the "On Killing" or "On Combat" philosophy might win wars, community policing might be more effective off the battlefield. When all you have (or know) is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I used one of those in the above pic to help a lady at a beach access. She lost her key to the cable lock on her bike .
It cut through the cable in less than 10 seconds.

 

So what happens when there is more than one person open carrying? I’m of the belief folks are less likely to do things when there is a known deterrent.

On your person is the best place for your pistol. AIWB, seat belt ran behind it. If you need it, you will likely need it with in a second imho.

I’ve read 65% of the posts and find a lot of the info, at best, kind of sort of maybe a little right, about CCW.

I travel through Illinois frequently, which has some pretty strict laws. In every state I have ever traveled through, provided the pistol, rifle or shotgun, is unloaded and not within reach ie, rear of the vehicle, you will not be getting arrested, put in jail for a CC violation. This is Illinois requirements, out of reach and unloaded. I use a lock box for the pistol I carry when I travel through states with strict gun laws. Again, not available and unloaded mean it might be concealed but it is not a violation of any gun law of which I am aware. There might be some municipalities with odd or outlying laws that unloaded and out of reach isn’t enough, but I’d not visit those locales.

I don’t go to Cali, for any reason and when I travel to Oregon or WaState I fly and I don’t carry.

In vehicle storage, the question of the thread, for me is a good lock box, USA made, with the cable attached to my seat. This is rare, if I can’t carry where I’m going, I don’t take my pistol. Thieves know you can’t carry into a stadium, the courthouse, the school or any number of other places and do wait for people they identify as people with firearms, and try to break into their vehicles. Thieves are really good at what they do so they don’t take long to acquire what they are after.

Personally, I wouldn’t leave my pistol in my vehicle, ever. There is no “safe” place when you are not in the vehicle.

I know several LEOs, that 3 second thing, never heard it, and from true concealed would require practice to be on target in 3 or less. From open carry, not so difficult. It could be something they are taught in training? I’ll ask, mostly as I’m curious. More often than not, once the pistol grip is seen the aggressor withdraws, whether it gets drawn or not. Any signs of withdraw or deescalation normally mean you should not draw in most cases.

Get a license, go to class, be smart when you carry, don’t leave your weapon unattended and know the laws for where you live and are traveling.

Well said Ed, best post here. I would have given a percentage on the “really good thieves “ however as there are a lot of them in jail wishing they were better at their craft. My son was a LEO and I believe the “3” second line is more correctly stated as the 21’ axiom. If someone is within 21’ of you, you will be hard pressed to draw and cover before they reach you. Awareness is the best defense and de-escalation is the best option. Just my 2cents though so take it with a shot and a lick and have a great day.

I’ve met Dave Grossman. He does in-service training for LE agencies (or at least he used to). The reason his mindset tools are valuable is because at some point in an LEO’s career the “officer friendly” approach is going to be the wrong one, and when that moment arrives, if you don’t already have the winning mindset you’re lessening your chances of survival. Comments like the one you quoted (if you were referring to the 3-second one) make sense for far more than just traffic stops. Maybe people are smart to listen to the advice of folks who carry firearms for a living and get into self-defense situations numerous times per year as opposed to the opinion of insurance adjusters who mock the same advice.

The trainer for my ccw class was a police officer,6'2, 280 lbs, not fat. He had us all stand in a line , practice drawing our guns and picking a target. He picked the fastest draw, a 25 year old , stepped off 21' and told him to draw his weapon before he could cover the distance and stab him. He covered the 21' before the kid could get his gun unholstered and he knew what was going to happen. 3 seconds is a lifetime, 4 seconds if you have to chamber a round.

 

So, did he quit carrying? Because the comment was, "if it takes you more than about 3 seconds to get to it, you may as well not have it with you." If the fastest in the group couldn't do it, maybe they should all turn in their guns and go home?

That would also play out better for those that don't have it under a shirt or jacket, but open.
