Hello, all. With a growing family, I'm looking into purchasing a 4Runner. With plans to build/modify, I think I will go for the sr5. After purchasing a 2019 TRD Off-Road 4x4 Tacoma and replacing everything that made it a trd off-road, I don't waste to waste money like that again. Does anyone think this is not a logical choice?

    Welcome to the forum.

As long as you set yourself up for what you needs are, within your budget, you can never go wrong. You could keep it stock and swap to new tires or go hog wild as they say and do a full suspension change W/Lift.

Do what accomplishes "Your needs". I still enjoy looking at jacked up and tilted out "workin" 4runners when out on in the wilderness.

    Once again welcome aboard.

Agreed. I do all my own fabrication work, so the only big expense will be suspension. I already started designing armor on a friend's 5th gen, so I'll have CAD files ready when I get my 4Runner. I'll probably be stubborn and jump straight to 295s or 315s.

Welcome aboard. SR5 should be fine if you don't need the stock rear locker.

True. I wouldn't mind adding a locker to the sr5 down the road. I've never personally worked on a regear or locker install, but I'm willing to give it a try.
