Still Happy with my choice to purchase a 4runner ORP vs Tacoma aft 12 months and 5500 mile

Decided to replace my 08 Highlander last September. In got a great deal on a 2023 4runner ORP in a color that I could live with for a long time. I was originally looking at the Tacoma, but the small rear seat and lack of lockable storage space, I decided to go with the ORP. I recently parked next to a 2024 Trailhunter and took these images. The truck belonged to US Marine Veteran - (it had special Vet license plate) Not sure if I would spend $68,000+ to own one, but it sure looks cool - Iforcemax 4cyl

 

Traded my '17 Tacoma in on a '23 T4R ORP last August and could not be happier. Build quality is so much better and I honestly don't miss the bed, as a small trailer adds much more versatility.

 

Had a Tacoma for 1 year and then traded it in for a loss (2012). I don't want to stoke the fires of Tacoma vs 4Runner but suffice it to say the 4Runner is better for me as I bought a '13 and am now on my '23.

 

I did like two things about the 3rd gen Taco, the manual transmission and the old school hand brake.

Other than that everything tilts toward the 5th gen 4Runner in my book.

 

I had Tacomas since 2016. In January, I traded in for 23' 4Runner TRD OR. Love it! Glad I made the move.

It would have been a very tight squeeze in my garage. I can walk all the way around the 4runner. Definitely bigger than the 4runner in all dimensions.

 

Went from a Raptor to a 4R Pro - couldn't be happier.

 

I went from taco ( among other pickups) to T4R. I miss the ease of just running to get things with the bed. Was even looking to see if new tacos were bigger inside, but just can't get rid of the 4R.

 

Good choice OP as it seems like the new 4th gen Tacoma's (AT) have been having transmission issues...

I went from 2 FJ's 2008,2012 to a 2015 Tacoma Access Cab TRD Sport, then 2018 4Runner TRD OR to now 2023 4Runner TRD Pro. I loved the FJ's & didn't want a full 4 door vehicle hence the Tacoma. The interior was kinda cheap compared to the FJ's IMHO. I really like the 4R TRD Pro over the TRD OR, just some of the extra's are worth it to me, again JMHO!

 

Looks like you made the starboard decision!

I like the wider stance they gave the Tacoma & Gen6 4R, just wish they had also blessed both with more interior space. Lately, every time I see a new Taco from the rear three-quarter, I keep thinking it’s a Tundra.

 

When my 1996 4Runner was at end of life, I traded for a 2010 Tacoma i4, 5sp to stay with a manual trans. Then, I upgraded to a 2018 Tacoma. Then during the various Toyota shortages, I accepted an incredible offer and traded up to a 2022 4Runner. I already owned a very handy Aluma trailer for hauling so I didn't miss the bed of the Tacoma. I am very happy. I was lucky enough to have all in MGM ( well the 96 color was called something else, but looked the same to me).

 

I went from a 2020 OR manual taco that I chopped up front and rear to a 2018 OR 4Runner. I love the extra space and so far I’ve not yet ruined my gas mileage
