Bought my 4Runner brand new, December of 23, because I wanted one of the toughest, most reliable, capable and safe production vehicles ever. Before they change it over to the Turbo 4 cylinder.
I adore this truck. But I sought out this forum because of what I found out is a common issue even with brand new…..the wobble in the steering, especially at high speeds. I am on my third set of tires, & visits to either Toyota, an independent mechanic, and my trusted tire supplier. I even have a case with Toyota North America. My latest set of high quality tires have made a big difference and the wheel balancing is key. But one day it’s wobbly, the next day it’s not. But it’s good to see this is a very common issue

My tires flat spot all the time and wobble like crazy when you first start going till they get warm and "round" back out.
If you are running and park like at work, when you get ready to leave that evening, if you drive slow surface roads at 10-45 you never notice, the tire will warm up and go back to round in 10ish mins and if you do get up to speed you dont notice.
If you get up on the highway quickly, before the tire gets warm and fluffs back out to round you get a terrible wobble like an unbalanced tire. In about 5-6 miles it starts to fade away and by 10 miles at speeds they are smooth as butter.
You might be getting flat spots in the tread, and they need to work themselves out by getting hot. I have noticed my vehicles doing this at minimum the past 10 years.

I have noticed the flat spots and it’s almost most noticeable after sitting for several days or over night. I park in an airport garage a lot for trips. That being said, buying high quality replacement tires and road balancing has made a big difference

Maybe you have a bent rim? What has Toyota North America said or done so far?

    Welcome from Collinsville!

Have you tried a "road force" tire balance? I have seen success there when other options failed. You might try Dino's in Tulsa if your place didn't do a road force balance.

Edit: just read your reply about road force!

Here's a pic I took at Disney last weekend. I do a bunch of wheeling around the area, hit me up if that's your thing.

At first the dealership would only replace 2 tires. So then I took it to 4 Star Imports and the mechanic showed me how the tires were crap, uneven. So then I called Toyota North America and got a case going. This time dealership replaced all 4 tires. But the wobbling began again after only a few drives. Took it back to in 4 Star. Turns out Toyota just put a different brand of really cheap tires. So I went and bought really good off road tires. They work great, but these wheels keep shedding the weights and going out of balance.

fellow Oklahoman here, ours does the same thing. We took it to Discount Tire to get it balanced and was good for a bit, but now its back. I somewhat blame the road here in Oklahoma because same speed but different road will result is a different shake, but we are taking it in to get a road force balance and see how that goes. Next will be ECGS replacements.

The inside sticker weights will come off, i put gorilla tape over the wheel weights right after they do them. As soon as the wheels are road force balanced, use the thick gorilla tape over the top of the weights. I use a plastic panel tool to really squish the tape around the weight, and then cut the tape nice and even and straight with a razor blade to make it look good. This is how i have done the stick on weights since like 1999. My first set of stick on weights were on a vehicle back in 1999 or 2000 and they came off like crazy. I learned to use duck-tape over the weights to hold them down (which works) and ever since then if i get a set of wheels that uses the stick on weights, i am sure to use tape over the weights immediately.

Matter of fact, i got a set of tires and wheels for my wifes new rig last summer as a surprise for her. Went and had the tires and wheels mounted and balanced in town. I went and picked them up and put them in the back of my truck and made the 8 mile trip home to hide them in the shop before she got home and when i rolled them out of the bed of the truck there were a few weights laying in the bed. I couldnt figure out which wheel they came off so i had to take all 4 back up there and get them rebalanced again. Then i put tape on them on the tailgate in the parking lot. This is the only way i have ever found to keep stick-on weights stuck-on

Wow, no kidding? It’s a real problem. My trusted tire guy at Robertson Tire here says weights just don’t stay on well with these aluminum wheels. That’s a good solution you came up with….gonna get some gorilla tape

I have never seen them stay on anybodys wheels, i try to give this trick out to anybody because it works. Just clean the wheels so the tape sticks good, black tape for black wheels, grey tape for silver wheels and nobody will ever notice.

And I’m running BF Goodrich Trail Terrajn T/A 265/70R17. More rugged than the standard SR 5 tires, look way better, and so run really well. However, when the tire has sat a while it still get the wobbles early in the drive
