I'm wanting to upgrade the sound system in my 2024 TRD ORP (non-JBL). My 2 main objectives are I'm not ready to replace the head unit or do I want a subwoofer box taking up any space in the cargo area (factory sub location is ok though).

I came across this kit from Trail Grid Pro and this may be a good solution for the meantime until I'm ready to upgrade the head unit.

At $800, this kit provides a way to keep the stock head unit, boost power to the speakers (45 watts RMS) and add an 8" 120 watt RMS sub under the seat.

I'm not sure if I should go this route or add a 8" subwoofer in the JBL enclosure from Toyota. I also looked at the JL Audio Stealth Box, but the cost is putting me off a bit at $1600.

Is anyone running a under seat subwoofer kit that's similar to this? Are you happy with it?

    Thanks

Alpine is the best if you like best sound and dependable electronics. Well it was 30 years ago anyway

I always thought Alpine had the clearest sound. They were really reliable before removable faceplates. I had a couple of their amps and need a problem. My buddy had Fosgate and they had it more than him repairing. That was when they first came out in the 1980s. I don't think it's as bad now.

An AIO setup will almost never be as good as piecing together the components yourself, but if I had to trust one company to do a package, it would be Alpine.

I always used all Alpine everything and installed myself. Sounded great. Have to match components, but using one brand makes it easier. I started to buy SR5 and put Alpine system in it. I'm just getting to old, tired and easy please.

Don't do it. Change out the head unit, get a new amp and components up front. I tried to keep the stock head unit and it was not worth it, huge headache and sounded blah.

I also have no sub, my 6x9 Alpine components give a good amount of lows.

Had an Alpine 7903 back in the day with no issues whatsoever.

I had Fosgate amps and ever had any issues with my Rockford amps, Provided many years of service, trouble free. I guess it varies by location and what you get and how you push them.

I did that in a car I had a long time ago. Sounded amazing. It's a great idea.

Yeah I didn't even know what a sub was in the 80s. My Alpine 6×9s were always fine

I don't think Fosgate has the issue now. It was 1981 and first time I had seen or heard of them. Removable face plates ruined good head units.

I was going to say Crutchfield has 6x9 subs for front doors. I think they were JLs. I couldn't find enough Alpine to fill all the holes. Taking rear hatch panel off I saw 6x9s will fit with a little bracket modification. Brackets just fill up a big hole for whatever speaker size. They make a nice little 200w amped compact sub and a compact under the passenger seat sub and amp in one package. My first sub experience was a 100w Bazooka Tube. It was awesome to in my Scion. Toyota plug and play option then.
