'22 TRD ORP, stock suspension, stock tire size. Looking to replace factory tires, which have been fine for mostly driving on pavement. For the new tires I'd like to optimize for the following:

    * 80 - 90% use is on pavement (quiet is good)
    * offroad use is mostly gravel and dirt, nothing too crazy, no rock crawling
    * need a tire that is good on wet roads (it rains a lot here)
    * need a tire that does well on snow (3 peak rating?)

    Thanks!

Exactly what I wanted to recommend. Toyo Open Country AT3 is perfect for OPs requirements over other tires I've used (BFG KO2, GY Duratrac, Falken AT3W, Nitto Terra grappler).

With 80 -90% highway usage, I would recommend Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 tires. Great tires that will serve you well.

I’m in the same boat, I’m looking at General Tires ATX, Toyo OC AT3 or Falken AT4W. I would go less off-road style tires but I want the look

Most people on the forums, Reddit and YouTube seem to enjoy them. Only thing you may want to keep in mind is some are harder to balance then other.

I'm also happy with the Toyo Open Country AT3. It's a good all around tire. I'd stick to SL load range for your needs.

The Michelins recommended in post #5 would probably be an excellent choice, as well.

Why though? What are you gaining with "yet another" thread as opposed to the others you clearly know exist? Think we're all holding on to the secret right answer until you finally asked?

Get black ones that fit on your wheels. Cant miss.

THIS^^^ 100%. My ‘22 ORP and my use case are the same as the OP. I just installed the Defender LTX M/S2 this week. They are XL load range. Somewhere between SL and load range C. Noticeably firmer and much more stable and smooth than the crappy Dunlops that it came with. Thought hard about getting more aggressive all-terrain tires, but these are great off-road according to many reviews. They just don’t look the part. I decided not to care about that.

Great on road tires. I have them now and when I replace they will be solid backups. Tread wear is good

Even though the new Michelin Defender LTX MS2 isn't 3 peak snow rated (or whatever that's called), they're absolutely fantastic on wet/slippery/snow conditions. Based on my experience I'd venture to guess they're better than some tires that DO have the snowflake rating.

I'm leaning toward the Toyo OC AT3s in the SL rating.

    My Limited (which is out pavement princes and rarely go off pavement) will most likely get these when I need new tires;
(Note that it has 285/70R17, so my options are not good as 265/70R17. I'm also in CO, so 3PMSF is an absolute must for me.)

    • yokohama geolandar at g015 (But I dislike while letters on side wall)
    • bfgoodrich trail terrain (But I dislike while letters on side wall)
    • toyo open country at iii

I really looked on to cooper discoverer at3 4s, but it seems to be discontinued. But it ticked lot of boxes for me.
3PMSF rated, lot of siping on tread, 14/32 tread depth, just 45lbs, SL rated, black side wall letters,

Don’t white lettered tires come with the option of mounting with black letters facing out?

Discount Tire gave me the option when I got my Defender LTX’s put on.

@icebear, yes, typically AT tires are not "directional", and can be mounted either way.

I have come to the conclusion that tire convo is insane lol I haven’t stopped scratching my head at what to actually get. I think honestly at this point, tire tech has gotten so good that if you go Falken, General, Toyo, Nitto, Cooper… any major brand that’s on gen 2-3-4 of their AT tire, baring having a bad set that you can’t balance right for your rig.

They should all be close to equal.

    anyone feels else that way?

for real lol - the more I research the less I know. it's just enough of a purchase that I feel justified in my nitpicking but now it's been 2 years since I bought my 4runner
