I do like the ORP's MTM capability on the trail. It saves me a bit of having to stop, get out and look. The angle displays are handy for reducing stress off camber.

    Lol, "reasonable 4Runner owners."

Notice that I was referring to people on this forum, not the average customer.

But, I'll disagree with you suggesting that the vast majority of buyers would actually prefer to have invasive safety nannies.

And, you can add a front camera for pretty cheap, so that's not going to be a deal breaker for some people.

Edit: also, the radar also limits which bumpers you can run to an extent, so that's another negative for TSS.

Also, to your point about everyone thinking their year is the best year; I bought a 2019 because that's what year it was when I bought mine. There's no other reason. I don't care what others like or dislike about any particular model year. I just mentioned the TSS thing because some people don't want those types of things on their vehicles.

I wish moderators were a little involved in controlling what gets discussed in posts here. Politics has no place in a forum for vehicles, and such discussions should not be allowed. Whatever your leaning is on the spectrum, we are discussing vehicles here, not politics. I blame mods more than I blame the members.

I'm generally happy with the moderating here. I don't think the moderators read through every thread looking for violations. If someone reports a post, they'll definitely take a look and clean up as necessary.

I'm also fine with leaving the political stuff completely out of the conversation. I can usually live with a little bit of political discussion, as long as it's respectful and relevant. Unfortunately, whenever a thread gets political, the comments are rarely either of those things.

By 2923, they’ll probably just be getting to the 7th gen.

if you have been paying any level of attention you should be aware that modern day development in automobiles are inherently driven by politics.

Politics is the reason why Toyota had to phase out all of its well reputed port injected, NA engine vehicles in the US as of MY 2025. Politics is the reason why we can't have proper Hiluxes here(and it's not chicken tax, Toyota is fully aware they can produce Hiluxes in Mexico to sell here like they do with all new Tacomas), and for that matter Full size LCs, and cheap smaller sedans and hatchbacks anymore.

If you want full insulation from politics you don't like, perhaps one of the larger subreddits on Reddit will suit you better in terms of content moderation.

MTM is awesome.. the new Toyota trucks have high resolution cameras so it’s even more useful.

people try to argue the 1958 trim LC is best for off roaders.. ignoring the fact that Toyota doesn’t even offer MTM as an option for that trim. 1958 is for sure a terrible vehicle.

I am against tech too simply for the reason that more complicated = more to go wrong. So far my '21 SR5 hasn't had any issues, but I will admit to defeating the DCM calling home to mother ship, so maybe that's why? No updates, straight from factory, hopefully means no issues. The TSS features have never been an imposition or an issue in their original form.

You can run updates from a USB stick for the navigation if you need to. I disabled the DCM as well.

I purchased a Pro for certain things I wanted. Purchased for msrp. Purchased to use however I want. I might throw those shocks in the trash or keep them forever. For all you guys throwing shade on Pros, there’s an awful lot of items being purchased to make their 4Runners looks like Pros.

If you didn't pay a markup or pay new price for a used one, then no need to get too defensive.

what baffles me is a 50k vehicle doesn't even come standard with seat memory functions.

sat in a new rc350 (they had a gx550 for viewing.. so pretty) they have some giant bulge from transmission by the driver's footwell that affects the right foot. like basically a tumor that should've ended up on the passenger side lol. build quality feels cheap.

Getting slightly off-topic but the TSS, in its various forms, has saved my, and more importantly my wife and kids, bacon many times. Snowstorms, black ice, itty-bitty cars in the blind spots, and all in the mountains.
Definitely something I like to have, and would seek to find on a used vehicle.

The high demand because no one wants a gen 6 is driving these prices up. These dealerships are becoming a joke. The place I got my new 2024 purposely orders them without floor mats and cargo mats so that you pay for them. (We found out after we signed, salesman told my husband when we came in for the rack install). I got the rack added on and they CHARGED me for the labor and didn't do the plate transfer courtesy. (My husband used to be a Ford salesman, gave lots of freebies including labor cost and some add ons). That dealership has horrible customer service, but the only one w/in a 50 mile radius to actually have one in stock. All said and done it will be $57k for a SR5P.

It’s always funny when people get mad at pro owners acting like it’s their money. For what it’s worth, I bought my pro new at MSRP (which was $53K back in 22) and some of the people that have complained about pro owners have bought their ORP or SR5P for around the same price or more.

As long as you’re happy with YOUR truck, why does it matter what others are doing with theirs? Go outside and enjoy it.

If TSS has saved you "many times", I'd recommend driving more attentively. Or, are you confusing it with traction control?

Agreed. There's no reason to bash anyone's preferred trim. I think of the PRO as the ideal trim for those who don't want to modify their 4Runners, but want to do mild off-roading. Or, just because you like it. :notsure:

I'm somewhere in the middle on this. I have to admit that I've been in the "more to go wrong" school all the way back to engine control modules. But I also have to admit that on balance none of this stuff has really ever caused problems, at least for me personally. My '98 was 25 years old when I let her go (for $2200 more than I paid 9 years prior). I did not encounter any problems with the ECM, ABS, MAF, or coil packs. I did have an injector go bad and the charcoal cannister right near the end of my ownership and both were easy/relatively easy and inexpensive to fix.

I feel fortunate to not have the TSS stuff in my 2019 but that's just me. I could always turn it off.
We rented a '24 RAV4 in June while on vacation and all the beeping/warnings about stuff I was already aware of was anywhere from irritating to startling. I did like the 360 camera view though as well as the alert for backing out of parking spots with limited visibility. (cross traffic alert or something?)

This is the kind of stuff I could live without. I can roll up my windows. I can push/pull a lock button. I can adjust my seat with knobs and levers. I can open the back hatch. (though my wife loves her auto open) And these are the kind of things that DO break.
My ex had an Infiniti with the seat that ran up and back with each start up of the car. I didn't know it could be disabled and frankly at the time didn't really think about it. Of course it was a metal threaded rod running through a plastic threaded stationary point that crapped out right after warranty expiration. And of course it was part of the seat frame and the whole kit and kaboodle had to be replaced to the tune of an $800 part.(and this was when $800 was still something) Fortunately for us it stopped at a good position for driving so we just blew it off, but you get the point. These are some of the things that increase car prices and we as consumers demand them so...

I just traded in my 22 ORP for a new Ford Raptor and I'm actually considering going back to the Ford Dealer and buying it back to park in my garage under a cover, if nothing else. I missed having a pickup as a daily and bought the Raptor on impulse because I refused to go hybrid with a new Tundra Pro. The amount of technology in the Raptor is off the chain hook. It's daunting, it's intrusive, it's overwhelming.... and I mostly hate it. It is a supercomputer on wheels. My gut is telling me I should have scoured the earth for a pavement princess low mile '21 Tundra Pro.
