My 2011 SR5 does not come with the automatic headlight feature. I used to have a Land Cruiser that had the feature and I miss it. I always forget to turn on my lights at night because I’ve gotten so used to it. The feature I am talking about automatically turns the lights on when it gets dark outside.

I’ve seen a YouTube video of it being done to a Tundra where they replace the headlight stalk and then they replace the little plug on the dash with the sensor. I’m positive that there are 4Runners with that option but there’s not a clear answer to how to convert them. Is it as easy as doing the same as the tundra or are there more issues I would run into? I know my car could have that option because there’s a plug where the sensor would be.

I’ve done a little snooping on this forum but haven’t found anything and the problem still seems to be unsolved. Does anyone know of any kits or other forum posts that have done this?

I've never seen it done on a 5th Gen 4Runner. It's only a feature found on Limited & Pro trim levels. Here's what I do: I leave the lights in the "on" position all the time. I never have to worry about turning them on or off. Since they turn off when I lock it and set the alarm.

That thread is misleading, because they are talking about the sensor that makes the head unit & speedometer light up. You know the one; if your lights are on during the day the infotainment system adjusts automatically.

The thread isn't about auto on/off head lights.

The only way someone gets that on a non-Limited non-Pro model is to buy a Canadian 4Runner. In Canada it's mandated for all cars.

In that case I misidentified it. There's a thread in that timeframe about disassembling the stalk on a new vehicle and replacing parts to get fully auto headlights.

That thread IS about auto on/off headlights, I was the OP. The auto headlights work, but I haven't been able to get the key fobs working after changing the Body ECU. Still trying to figure it out.
