1Gal milk jug and the trashman picks it up here in Boise, ID.

This is how my dad used to do it until the late 80's, until about the 2000's there was black grass in the dump area.

That's actually the best option if you can't recycle it, breaks it down into the basic CO2 and water compounds.

I agree its dumb but its legal here somehow. I use the plastic catch pan most of the time and take it to the auto store.

I do admit though I've used the box multiple times just because.

I'm going to assume it is. Zero need for heat here. Only heater I own is for the dog after showers. (Its a spoiled little shit)

The only time I need heat is to defrost my windshield.

I use a couple of dedicated 6gal water jugs. One for waste oil and the other for used coolant.
I also take them to the local vato zone. They're good about that.

Stop buying the lame overpriced Toyota oil and go back to 5 qt jugs :notsure:

Don't you have gallon-size windshield washer fluid jugs?

Hmmm, what would be different if they knew about synthetic oil?

Yup. There’s nothing wrong with using Valvoline, Mobil 1 or any other oil.

I've always poured it back into the containers I just emptied W/new oil. My had a garage that had waste oil heater, recently sold it but new owners have large container still outside to just dump in & I bring containers home for the recycle bin.

Lots of options -- thanks all!

I never considered re-filling the quart containers, but I'll get a funnel and try that ...

You don't use a funnel when servicing the oil?

No, if pour with the spout at the top, and do it carefully, I can usually fill without any spills.

In the 1960s they sprayed DDT on children and doctors recommended Camel. Oil contamination was the least of their worries

Windshield washer empty bottles, one gallon olive oil empties, laundry detergent empties, milk jug empties… save them, use them for dirty oil, drop off at your recycling location.

Kitty litter containers are pretty good too. They have a nice wide opening.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
    Yep!
My diesel contributes 12qts of jet black oil, I hoard jugs.

Cant believe i havent seen it here yet.
I fill old race gas cans with my used oil and trade them in. 5gal metal race gas cans, with handle and large pour spout, are easy to fill back up and easy to close off and easy to drop off elsewhere to trade in.

Do most AutoZone type places have you empty the containers into a larger container and return your jugs or whatever?

It depends. Sometimes you can dump it yourself, then do what you please with the jugs, and sometimes they'll take care of, in which case you need to specify if you want the jugs back.

And sometimes, if you show up with seven 5-quart jugs, they let you do whatever you want, because they don't want to deal with that, lol.

I work in aviation maintenance. I do my oil changes at work in the hangar, and I have access to several waste oil containers at the airport.

The local one that I go to used to let a person drain their own container and they had a large trash can beside it so you could leave your old jugs there. That is until some jerkwad dumped a mix of oil & coolant in the holding tank. So now we just leave it by the counter and they drain it for you, while I walk the aisles. I pride myself on fu**ing around with the free service that they provide.

They will take their sweet time to go out there to empty your jugs due to staffing shortages or just laziness (too hot, too cold, rain, etc). Disposable containers you can just leave near the bin they will say.

There's paperwork involved at Advance Auto Parts near me. You have to provide ID and contact info. They claim to do some kind of testing before they accept the oil. They say they don't want mixed waste, especially oil with gas.

I'm headed to Advance Auto and O'Reilly Auto later today to pick up the oil change supplies (neither had all of what I wanted, and they're only a few blocks apart), so I will see what they say. And there is an Autozone in between the two.
