Hood to Radiator Front Seal; anyone missing the rubber seal that attaches to the underside of the hood on 2012 4Runner?

I was cleaning the underside of the hood and noticed a rubber piece missing, almost like it had never been there.

Looked it up online (diagram) and found one:
at Larry H. Miller Toyota of Spokane
    https://parts.larryhmillertoyotaspokane.com/
Part Number 53381-60140 Front Seal $5.03
    Estimated Economy Shipping: $7.88
    Total: $12.90
comes with fasteners that go in the square holes that were made for the part.

Mine's there....order one then post on the what you did to your 5th gen thread and see how many likes you get.

Seriously though looking at the quality of rubber I would not be surprised if it just deteriorated over time and a tech just ripped it off to get it out of the way.

This gay penguin was driving across the desert and his car started making a odd noise. He stopped in the next town at an auto repair shop to get it checked out.
The mechanic told him it would take a little while to diagnose it so the penguin went across the street to get an ice cream cone while he waited.
When he finished his ice cream he walked back over to the repair shop with ice cream all over his face. He ask the mechanic "What do you think?"
The mechanic replied "It looks like you blew a seal".

no, I opened the hood to install the AVS bug shield...I didn't know there was supposed to be a seal there

the 8 square holes across the underside of the hood where the bug guard mounts were empty and looked like nothing had been there

not sure if you can use the bug shield with the seal or not

Those square holes are for the OEM bug shield. The seal is further back.

You 5th Gen owner are lucky if you have to replace this seal at $6, the seal for a 4th Gen is $35!!

I was cleaning under the hood yesterday and wondered what all the "extra" holes are for. So, the square holes are for the bug shield, right? But what about the other unused round holes. Usually, unused holes, wiring harnesse/plugs, blanks in the dash, etc. can be explained away with options you didn't get or mandatory stuff for other markets. I'm guessing the latter here - something for non-U.S. markets?

If there's a fancy optional seal that the original owner was too cheap to buy, I clearly need to that!

^Drainage and mfg tooling (to locate the sheet on the stamping die) are the other reasons for holes.

I have a fiberglass hood on my Tacoma and had to drill drainage holes myself. Before that, I could hear water sloshing inside after a wash.

I’d say the seal if more of a suggestion than an actual seal.

Incidentally the fiberglass hood didn't have holes for mounting the hood seal either. I snipped off the pegs on the OEM seal and mounted it with 3M molding tape. On the Tacoma, there isn't a plastic shroud bridging the grille with the radiator support, so the seal is necessary for good airflow through the radiator.
On the 5th gen 4R the seal is a bit redundant, maybe for noise.

Is fiberglass hood an aftermarket addition?

Yep, and a poorly made one, but it was 1/3 the cost of a Seibon carbon hood, with similar weight reduction. The stock Tacoma hood is 40lb. The fiberglass hood is ~25lb.

I think the 4th gen Taco changed to an OEM aluminum hood, which means the 6th gen 4R will be the same.
