but on the new 2024 tacoma is only requires 87 pump rating (91 ron). so it looks like the tacoma and most likely the 4runner will only require 87 (91 ron) vs the LC250 mandating 91 (96 ron)

pulled from the 24 tacoma non hv manual

    section 8.1 specifications
    page 615

I can buy an awful lot of offroad accessories and gas for the price difference between my 24 Pro and a 2025 Pro, and I can do it without questionable reliability. I can also do it with a fully flat folding rear seat. That's all before you add the dealer markup to it (around here will probably be $10k).

also wanted to add, pulled the tacoma hv owners manual. it also only states 87 (91 ron)

so it looks like the LC250 is going the premium route for the same engine. dont know why it would be tuned differently than the tacoma or most likely the 4runner.

Around here in MA the price jump from regular to premium is anywhere from $0.80 to $1.40. Depending on how much you drive that’s an extra $1,000 to $2,000 a year. Keep that vehicle for 10 years and you just spent an extra $10,000 to $20,000 on premium gas. Thats absurd. For what? A tiny more HP and/or tiny bit better mpg?

Those numbers don't add up the same for me.

The 2024 Landcruiser gets 37.5% better city mpg and 31.6% better highway mpg than the 2024 4Runner. 2025 4Runner is expected to be even better.

As pointed out above, you don't have to put in premium, but even if I did use premium I would save $ on gas buying a 2025 over a 2024.
Currently in OK reg is $2.97, premium is $3.17. Figuring city mpg on both:
    15,000 miles year, 19 mpg = 789 gallons x $2.97 = $2,343
    15,000 miles year, 22 mpg = 681 gallons x $3.17 = $2,158

    2024- 270hp/278tq
    2025- 326hp/465tq
20% increase in HP and 67% increase in torque is considered tiny??

Huh? I’m wasn’t comparing the LC to a 4Runner. I was comparing the same engine tuned for 87 vs that same engine tuned for 91.

EPA regulations are there to improve air quality. Higher MPG = less total fuel burned by the entire auto fleet = less CO2, CO, NOx, soot particulates, etc pumped into the air. They do not care about saving people money, its not in their mandate. The automakers are adding the "save money" angle as marketing spin.

(and I say this as somebody who is pretty pro-environment and does see this as good to do in aggregate even if my own personal buying choices are not always decided for environmental reasons)

Having said all that I am really surprised so many of these high output turbo motors don't require premium, as in the ooooold days pre-electronics and knock sensors pretty much anything over 9:1 compression needed hi test. Many of these engines are running base compression levels over that and effective compression levels on turbo WAY over that. The ignition mapping and knock detection systems in these modern engines has come a very long way. Heck even the "lowly" 1GR would need hi test if it wasn't for computer controlled ignition and knock sensors.

Turbocharged engines typically require higher octane due to its ability to not knock at higher compression provided by turbo. This is not Toyota failing, this is how you safely design forced induction engine.

Some small engine turbo cars can be designed to run on regular, but doing so a) greatly limits max boost, b) significantly increases performance requirements on intercoolers, c) requires more complicated knock sensing and much earlier pulling timing.

Spoke with my dealer this evening, according to him they received an estimate from Toyota Corporate that the 25s will be hitting the US ports sometime in September with the non-hybrids, and while he didn’t receive definitive confirmation, it sounds like the hybrids sometime after the 1st of the year.

not sure how much weight can be put into these comments, but figured I’d pass the message along!

That was my understanding as well, but their impression was that it’ll likely end up similar to the Tacoma but with a quicker turnaround.

That makes no sense as they already make the land cruiser...no reason to do it that way. I'll wait for a official announcement from Toyota before I believe rumors

I said the same thing as both the LC and Taco have the same T4 Hybrid. Either way, put down a deposit on an ORP :)

Prices in general are out of control. I’m holding out for 6th gen, would like an ORP with the hybrid, but only if the price makes sense.

I wonder if it is really a parts shortage or if they are trying to straighten out some of the issues with the new Tacomas first since they share many parts.

Most likley more than just a parts issue. What are the new Tacoma teething problems?

Looks like my doom and gloom of an early 2025 release may have been justified... Hopefully this can get sorted soon (assuming it's legit)

The grille shutter is a big problem. Now there have been some transmission failures. Also some shock failures since they moved the bump stop to the shock.

I wonder if Toyota looked at the sales numbers for 5th Gen and decided not to mess with a good thing.

Definitely not, they've had sales numbers from the start and their operation end-to-end is likely too big to say "jk!" and pivot at the first sign of a delay. I heard 2024's have stopped being produced and I'd guess the other vehicles coming out of Tahara can probably pick up any slack.

could argue the 5th gen popularity ever so slightly helps cushion their 6th gen delay pains
