Is anybody swapping out their OEM LED headlight bulbs for another LED? Talking specifically about bulb swaps, not the entire housing.

Just curious what/if there are better LEDs out there than what comes stock on the newer model Runners.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure those OEM LED housings aren't user serviceable and the entire headlight housing must be swapped if you want different bulbs.

My understanding also. If new LEDs have problems be prepared for a big fat parts price from Toyota parts department or start your search on FB market place for take off OEM LED Housings.

Then pray you don't break anything removing the bumper or fit perfectly after installing. :drunk:

While the specific housings are newish to the 4Runner, the LED system Toyota uses has been around for at least 6 years in other Toyota and Subaru models. I'm sure they're reliable.

I thought the OEM LED headlights were really nice? Have to be better than the halogen ones.

I'll have to peak under the hood tomorrow, I've never heard of that before. I was in a Gen3 Tacoma until 2 weeks ago so still figuring things out on the Runner.

No complaints yet, just asking around to see what's what. Still new to the Runner, coming from a '17 Tacoma so I'm used to having to make some upgrades, especially lighting

Bump here, as one of my headlights went out this week and I'm trying to replace the bulb. Are y'all trying to tell me that is not an option on a 2014 4Runner?

This is what came out of it:
    upload_2024-8-27_12-7-52.jpg

Seems like this bulb should fit, no? https://www.amazon.com/Lights-Bulbs-Approved-SEALIGHT-Xenon/dp/B079NSBTF8

If no, what are my options?

This thread is about the 2021+ (maybe 2020?) factory standard LED low-beam headlights.

(I personally would like to swap in a warmer color temperature to be a little less harsh to everyone around me but I digress)

For you, others can correct me but your 2014 likely came with halogens factory but I’m assuming the previous owner swapped those out for LEDs.

If it’s the original housing, know it’s generally not good to have aftermarket LEDs in housings means for halogens as the light scatters differently and can mean more glare for other drivers. I don’t know if that’s for all LEDs across the price range though.

Is it? I don't see anything about years in the OP? That was my 1st post here, so still trying to figure out navigation.

(I personally would like to swap in a warmer color temperature to be a little less harsh to everyone around me but I digress)

I'm guessing the LED were OEM because the housing the bulb goes into is 90 degrees off and points directly to the side of the vehicle. Have never seen that w/ a traditional bulb. Also, the outer lens is kind of frosted(?) and I've never seen that w/ a traditional bulb either.

Either way, the linked LED bulb seems to be working just fine so far.

Only the 2021+ (or maybe the 2020, I can't remember when they switched) come with OEM LED housings.

If you want great LED's for your specific year, stick to reputable vendors. My experience with VLED's, DDM, and Diode Dynamics has been great. I'd shy away from Amazon specials.
