Looking to rebuild the engine I have. Only has 180k miles on it and has a misfire. Not sure on the exact cause of the misfire, but I would like to rebuild the engine for longevity. Decently new to mechanical work.
Was wondering what all parts you recommend I replace? For rebuild and for convenience sake.

Any tips and tricks would also be helpful.

Pull the codes, fix it and keep driving. It doesn't need a rebuild unless its been abused. Go to a junkyard and get an engine to rebuild.

    Son, slow your roll.

FIRST. Do a compression (wet and dry) test. Do a leak down test. Do an exhaust gas coolant test. These are CHEAP.

Compression test will tell you if the cylinders and rings are good. Leak down test will tell you if the valves are good. Coolant test will tell you if you have a bad head gasket.

If those numbers are all healthy, you will NOT be able to rebuild a better engine. You already may have a really good fairly low mileage engine. These engines were engineered for 500k miles before a rebuild is needed. You are NOT EVEN CLOSE to that.

If the numbers are off, it should tell you whether you have a bad head or bad head gasket, or worn rings, etc.

Otherwise, you can then focus on the misfire and chase a bad injector or coil or plugs or whatever. Which you will most likely have to do anyways after dropping in a rebuilt engine.

compression test was done. All pressures were in the green but were all off by over 30 psi. I have not done a leak down test yet. And head gasket was replaced by the previous owner who i do not trust to have done a decent job so that needs to be replaced regardless. I am not sure if they did anything else to the engine while they were in there. Since I’ll have to really get in there anyway I would rather it be a big job one time and go all the way
